I remember when Efren's uncle, Jose Castro, signed his very first lease of the O'Rourke date groves with my Dad, Joe O'Rourke. I believe this was the Castro brother's first lease of a date property in the CV. Samuel Castro , Efren's dad, came along a little later as I recall. When Efren eventually entered the business, he brought t...he business acumen and managerial prowess that made the Castro business thrive. I did not know Efren well, but I was always highly impressed with his kind and professional demeanor. It was obvious that his employees thought the world of him. I am very saddened to learn of this terribly premature loss to the family and to the community and offer my deepest condolences.

Efren and I became friends at the age of ten, and we spent many hours hanging around the Santa Rosa Ranch together and enjoyed a few long horseback rides in our young adult years.... I cannot remember a single moment when he was ever anything but kind and friendly.
Everyone who knew him will agree that he was always ready with a great smile and a box full of dates.
I happened by the packing house about this time last year.
So glad we had the chance to visit, and he still had that same fabulous smile. He spoke proudly of his wife, his kids...and fondly remembered the old days when the Ranch and all of us were so young.
I remember he told me one of his sons was up here at Cal Poly SLO...studying AG of course!!!!
Please let me know if there is anything our family can do.
Efren was always such a wonderful source of support to my Grandparents, ever so patient and caring with them and we owe him a great deal of gratitude.
He will be missed.
The entire O'Rourke family sends its condolences and best wishes. This is indeed a shock, he was a good friend and so full of life. I will remember him that way!

Efren was truly a great friend to all. He was a giving man and did so much for all. In all the years I knew Efren he never spoke a bad word of anyone. He was always positive. I will treasure the good times we all had. Services were beautiful yesterday. I will never forget such a great friend. Love to you all Lisa, Cami, Drew and my Taylor 2 cows. I love u all.
