Sending our deepest sympathy. I have very fond memories of Jim "shreading" the pavement with his skateboard in the late sixties. He did things with his skateboards that no one else could do. He will be missed.

Aloha David,
I am cruising(sailing mexico) when I get this most awful news and have not been able to get Jim out of my mind. I love you. I am crying as I write this. May your God give you the strength to get past this. We were friends since Gardena and it is like losing a brother to me, too. I last saw Jim about ten years ago before my parents passed on and besides little less hair, same ol' Jimmy. We are in Mazatlan cruising south before crossing home to Hawaii and when I pass Punta Mita, the flowers will flow from the stern of our boat in his blessed honor. May God hold you and your family tight while Jim smiles down on you from above. Why, Why, Why?

What an outstanding guy! We met at June a few years ago. He and I rode Buttermilk together by ourselves at one of the sessions. What a great guy! I will miss him big time! Tim

Jim will be remembered fondly by everyone who ever met him. His boundless enthusiasm was unmatched. We met at the Pure Carve Expression Session in Aspen years ago. Always a highlight of this annual snowboarding event was seeing Jim ripping down the run, wild hair flying, hoots coming from chairlift above.

Jim, your Aloha spirit lives on...
All the best to Debby and Shane.

David, Cynzia, Vicki, Scott and family; Ron and I send our heartfelt condolences to you and your families. I was out of town in Texas when Ron gave me the news. I had not seen Jim for many years, and was lucky enough to exchange a few words with him at Silvia's wedding. He touched me with his infectious simile and words that day.

Sincerely,

Laurel Himes

I don't believe it. My brother and I met James! (yelled out) out at the Carving Sessions in Aspen in the late 90s early 2000's. He was just a trip. He was the total surfer dude, but completely without arrogance. Completely approachable ('cause he came to you). Positive and enthusiastic energy. He was a great ripper/carver. We missed him when he wasn't at the Carving Sessions. Then we'd see him the next year, and the love and friendship flooded the day and the runs with him. I am very very sorry for Deb and Shane and family. So sorry. God may have taken him, but He gave him to us as well. We will always remember James for his inimitable personality.

I met Jim in Aspen last year. We had so much fun riding together. Meeting, talking and riding with Jim was the highlight of that week for me. I spent many lift rides listening to Jim talk with love and affection of his wife and son, Shane. I'm really, really sad and will think of him often.

A terrible loss. I met Jim through a snowboarding website and in just our conversations I could tell he was someone that I would consider a great person and friend. You will be missed by many!!!

I met Jim on the top of Bear Mountain about 10 year ago when I was first learning how to ride a carving board. He noticed I was struggling and offered to lend some advice and help. In the process, and over the course of that season, he became a mentor and a friend. But in the final analysis, Jim was more than a friend: He was a brother. He would often use the term “Bro” with me and others but, to him, it was more than a greeting – it was what was in his heart. To Jim, true friends were brothers. Jim had the ability to do what many men are unable to do: He was able, on a regular basis, to tell his friends that he loved them and to take the time to explain that he meant it and just how very important their friendships were to him.

Jim: We’ve had some great times and great turns together. Now, with God at your side, take all of your friends under your wing as you did for me that first day at Bear until we’re all together again. I love you Bro!

I have been thinking of good time together with him this winter. Now I am overwhelmed with all the good time we had together. I don't know why this happened so suddenly. I will miss you, Jim.
