Janice Neidhart Obituary

Janice Neidhart

Janice was born as Janice Zumwinkle in Redwood Falls, Minnesota on January 26, 1932. She was not ill and died suddenly of heart failure in Palm Springs at Desert Regional Medical Center on December 30, 2011 at the age of 79. She grew up on a farm near Morton, Minnesota attending a rural one room school. Janice graduated from Morton High School in 1949 and was the class Valedictorian. She graduated from St Cloud State University, majoring in Biology & Science. Janice taught Math & Science at North Mercer Junior High, Mercer Island, Washington for 15 years before her retirement. Janice had two daughters who preceded her in death in year 2000. Her son, Ward, and family reside in the Seattle area. Janice & Don Neidhart were married in 1982. Don originally came to Palm Springs in 1947 with his parents George & Dorothy Neidhart and sister Dotty as winter residents attending the original Nellie Coffman Junior High School and graduating from Palm Springs High School in the class of 1952. The past 13 years Janice & Don have been spending 6 months in Palm Springs (in the winter) and 6 months in Mercer Island, Washington during the summers. Janice fell in love with the desert area, of course the weather, but also the village atmosphere and friendliness of the people she met. Janice & Don both attended many functions of the Chamber of Commerce for Desert Hot Springs, Cathedral City, & Palm Springs. She enjoyed keeping informed of the local happenings and went to many lectures at Eisenhower Medical Center. Janice enjoyed reading, playing bridge, gardening, cross-word puzzles, attending lectures and spending time with her husband, family or friends, because she always thought of others first. She truly was 'one of a kind' ….An amazing wife, mother & grandmother. Words cannot express how much this wonderful woman will be missed! She is survived by her husband Don Neidhart, son Ward Wilson, daughter in law Rebecca Armour-Wilson and granddaughter Lauren Wilson. Her Memorial Service will be held at 1 pm on May 12, 2012 at the Mercer Island Community Center, Mercer Island, Washington.

Dear Don, I was so sorry to hear of Jan's passing. I have fond memories of her as we worked together at North Mercer, and the years after. I remember when we visited you in Palm Springs; we had a lovely lunch and then you drove us around town and took us back to you condo which you had recently purchased. Janice was busy decorating it to her liking. When we left you sent us home with a big bag of oranges you picked in the yard.
I will see you at Janice's memorial.
Love, Ruth McMullen

Don and Ward, Janice's pals on Mercer Island extend our deepest sympathies. We had such good times, many as far back as our days together at North Mercer and continuing to our book group meetings. She was a dear and fun friend and we will miss her. I know I will look to the left and expect to see her smiling face during the Summer Celebration Parade in July! fran call
