Roger Perez Obituary
Roger H. Perez Sr., 84, of Coachella, CA died January 12, 2017 in Coachella, CA. He was born December 10, 1932, to Sixto Castro and Aurora Castro in Loredo, Texas.
He married Margaret Moreno on January 07, 1951 in Yuma, Arizona. He worked in the Date Industry and was owner of Perez Paints.
He was a member of Knights of Columbus. He was also a former Councilman and Mayor.
He is survived by his daughters Yolanda Ruiz and Sofie Briones; sons Roger H. Perez Jr., Rodrick, Alfred, and Roland Perez; sisters Grace Chavez and Alice Hagdney; brothers Raymond Perez, Hugo and George Castro; 17 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
Funeral Mass will be held January 23, 2017 at 9AM located at Our Lady of Soledad Church in Coachella, CA. Followed by a Burial at 11AM located at Coachella Valley Cemetery in Coachella, CA.

In 1973 I met Mr. Perez while I was working for Auto Fast Freight. I left the Indio route in 1976 and the company in 1979. Roger Sr and his son Roger Jr were wonderful people. Roger always had coffee and I enjoyed his company.

I was sorry to hear of the passing of Roger Sr. My condolences to the Perez Family. In my minds eye, I can still see him in his paint store or crossing 6th Street on his way to City Hall. He helped me one time with a school project when he was Mayor and he was so helpful and patient, I never forgot the gesture. He was true to the definition of a gentleman, chivalrous, honorable and polite.
