Eileen Carson Obituary

March 21, 1925 - April 22, 2019

Eileen Carson passed away April 22, 2019, at the age of 84.

Eileen was born in Halfway, Oregon to Bessie (Hansen) and Ellis Makinson. Her mother worked for the local post office and took care of the home, while her father ran a dairy farm, worked as a farm hand, and even served as a sheriff for a time. Growing up with sisters Wanda and Carol and brother Robert, Eileen often commented on the experience of growing up on a ranch, raising their own food and working hard. They even rode the family buggy into town! Eileen graduated high school in Halfway, Oregon.

Eileen met her husband Danny through a mutual friend, and her children even used to babysit Danny's kids before they were married. Once it became clear that Danny was the fella for her, they were married here in Bryan. While raising her children, she was stern and strict, and although no nonsense- she was extremely loving. She enjoyed taking her kids fishing and camping when they were growing up. Although she was not a good swimmer, she loved to fish anyway. Since she grew up around horses, she also tried to instill that same passion in her family. Her husband Danny was the light of her life and the center of her world. She spoiled him rotten, retiring from her work in large animal surgery at Texas A&M Veterinary Clinic in 1996 so she could take better care of him, and she loved every minute of it. When not taking care of Danny, she was loving on her grandbabies who adored their Memaw.

A great Christian woman, Eileen was strong in her faith. A longtime member of Zion Church of Kurten for more than 20 years, she shared her faith and good nature with all her church family. She enjoyed volunteering in the church nursery, taking care of the babies and kids. Working out in the garden and her yard and reading also made her happy. She read the newspaper every day.

A strong and loving spitfire, Eileen leaves behind her beloved husband Danny Carson, her daughter and son-in-law Barbara and Terry Anderson of Bryan, her daughter Debra Daniel of Bryan, her daughter and son-in-law Kathy and Mark Zimmerman of Akron, Colorado, her daughter and son-in-law Sue and Jimmie Mertz of League City, her daughter and son-in-law Danielle and Eric Watson of Corinth, her son and daughter-in-law Michael and Frances Carson of Iola, seventeen grandchildren, thirty two great-grandchildren, three great-great grandchildren, and her sister Carol Rager. She was preceded in death by her sister Wanda Ulbright, her brother Robert Makinson, and her parents Ellis and Bessie (Hansen) Makinson.

To honor her life, Eileen's family has planned a memorial service on Saturday, April 27, 2019 at 10 am at Zion Church of Kurten.
