Nancy Wright Obituary

Wright, Dr. Nancy Jane

February 28, 1939 - February 9, 2024

Dr. Nancy Jane Wright's journey on this earth came to a peaceful close on February 9, 2024. Her life was a tapestry of love, joy, and dedication to her family, friends, and passions.

Born on February 28, 1939, in Carthage, Illinois, Nancy's love story with her husband Art began with dating after high school. Their bond was unbreakable as they renewed their vows for their 25th wedding anniversary and celebrations for their 40th and 50th wedding anniversaries together. They were inseparable until his passing in April 2018.

Nancy's educational journey was marked by many achievements, including a diploma from Carthage High School, a Bachelor of Science degree from Western Illinois University with Magna Cum Laude honors, a Master's degree from Southern Illinois University in 1963, and a Ph.D. from Texas A&M University in 1975. She proudly served as Chair of the Humanities Department at Blinn College. Legend has it that Art wanted to postpone marriage until they both had jobs, so Nancy completed school in 3 years instead of 4 so that they could marry sooner!

Nancy's unwavering love for teaching shone brightly throughout her 50-plus-year career, an accomplishment she was very proud of. She also found immense joy in being the choir director and playing the piano at the First Christian Church, where she was a member and Elder Emeritus. Beyond her professional accomplishments, Nancy enjoyed watching sports on television and had a deep passion for English Literature, with a particular love for Beowulf and Shakespeare.

In addition to her professional endeavors, Nancy found solace in various hobbies like playing the piano, reading, singing, and various doll collections. She embarked on memorable trips with Art and John to Hawaii, and with Art to Canada via a first-class train journey, to the Grand Ole Opry, and to London.

Nancy was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Arthur Lee Wright; parents, William and Elizabeth (Walton) Lucasey; and sister, Susianna K. Lucchesi

Nancy was immensely proud of her role as a mother and grandmother; her family meant everything to her. She leaves behind her son, John Arthur Wright and husband Troy Gilbert, and grandchildren, Katherine Grace Wright and Randall Aaron Wright, both age 16, with memories that will forever be treasured.

A Visitation will be held Saturday, February 24, 2024 from 1-2pm at First Christian Church, 900 S. Ennis St, Bryan TX and immediately followed by a Celebration of Life and a Reception. The Graveside Service will take place 4:30-5:30 at Memorial Cemetery of College Station, 3800 Raymond Stotzer Parkway, College Station TX.
