Cary Hengstler Obituary

Cary J. Hengstler, 65, of Cridersville, died 4:50 p.m., Saturday, April 6, 2024, at Lima Memorial Health System, with his family at his side. He was born Oct. 29, 1958, in Lima, OH, the son of Ernest N. & Marilyn A. (Shields) Hengstler, and they preceded him in death.
Survivors include, two children, Shannon Hengstler, Minster, OH, Nina (Shaun) Mills, Elida, OH; grandchildren, Ethan Short, Evan Short, Ralphie Chaney, Chase Alvi, Willow Shaner, Zayden Mills; siblings, Greg Hengstler, Cridersville, Scott Hengstler, Wapakoneta, Rodney (Elaine) Hengstler, Petersburg, TN, Troy (Lisa) Hengstler, Lima, Julie Hoelscher, Wapakoneta; several nieces & nephews; and former wife, Sandra K. Herman.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Heather Hengstler.
Cary was a 1977 graduate of of Wapakoneta High School, and received his Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from Lima Technical College. He worked as a registered nurse with St. Rita's Medical Center, Auglaize Acres, and Lima Memorial Hospice. Cary taught STNA classes at Rhodes State College and Vantage Career Center, Van Wert, OH. He recently worked as a tour bus driver with Buckeye Charter, and was a bus driver with Perry Schools. He also worked as an E.M.T. and and had worked at Marimor. Cary was a member of St. Paul United Church of Christ, and the Fraternal Order of the Eagles, Aerie #691, both of Wapakoneta. His hobbies included riding his motorcycle, tinkering, listening to classic rock and roll, traveling, and reading. He played football at Wapakoneta High School, and was an avid fan of the Wapakoneta Redskins, The Ohio State University Buckeyes, and the Cleveland Browns. Cary was also always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. He was a genuine and loyal friend to many.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Thursday, April 11, 2024, at the Eley Funeral Home & Crematory, State Route 501, with Pastor Mark Bishop officiating. Burial will be at a later date in the Willow Grove Cemetery, near New Bremen, OH. The family will receive friends 5-8 p.m., Wednesday, April 10, 2024, and one hour prior to the service, Thurs. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be directed to a fund established for his grandchildren's education. Condolences may be expressed at EleyFuneralHomeAndCrematory.com.
