Eunice Ireton Obituary

Eunice R. Ireton, age 101, formerly of New Knoxville, died on Monday, July 7, 2025, at 3:42 p.m. at the Otterbein Senior Lifestyles Community in St. Marys where she had resided since 2019. She was born on March 29, 1924, the daughter of the late Fred H. and Magdalena S. (Kipp) Lutterbeck in Auglaize County near New Knoxville. On Sept. 6, 1947, she married Carol T. "Bud" Ireton, and together they shared 60 years of marriage before his death on Aug. 24, 2008. Eunice is survived by her son, David Ireton of Dayton and her daughter, Susan Harrod of New Bremen. Also left to cherish her memory are her grandchildren: Christina (Darrin) Klinger of Granville, Ohio and Eric (Stephanie) Harrod of New Bremen; and her great-grandchildren: Carson "CJ" Klinger and Cole Harrod. Along with her parents and husband, Eunice was proceeded in death by her daughter Constance Ireton in 1972, and she was also the last of her immediate family being proceeded by all of her siblings: Lester (Lucille) Lutterbeck, Robert Lutterbeck, Esther Lutterbeck, Mary (Alfred) Katterheinrich, Ruth (James) Burnfield, and Ruby (Paul) Kreher.
Eunice graduated from New Knoxville High School and was the last remaining classmate of the class of 1942. She was a member of the First United Church of Christ in New Knoxville, where she was baptized and was employed for many years as the church secretary and treasurer. She retired from Joint Twp. Dist. Memorial Hospital after working in admissions for a number of years. She was a member of the New Knoxville Historical Society, the New Knoxville American Legion Auxiliary, and the Joint Twp. Hospital Guild. She loved to spend time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, loved playing cards, and enjoyed time quilting – making and giving away many quilts. Eunice also loved to bake and was well known for her delicious pies.
Funeral Services will be held on Friday, July 11, 2025, at noon at the Gilberg-Hartwig Funeral Home in New Bremen with Rev. David Voll officiating. Burial will follow in the Pilger Ruhe Cemetery outside of New Knoxville. Family and friends may call on Friday, one hour prior to the service at the funeral home from 11:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. Memorial contributions in memory of Eunice can be made to Grand Lake Hospice.
