Carla Klein Obituary

CARLA JEAN DROLL KLEIN Lemon Grove, Calif. Carla Jean Droll Klein, 66, of Lemon Grove, Calif., formerly of Iowa City, Iowa, passed away Feb. 3, 2022, at Sharp-Grossmont Hospital in San Diego, Calif., following a sudden illness. Services will be held in the coming weeks at Lensing Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City, followed by burial at Memory Gardens Cemetery. Details will be announced when decided. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Iowa City Animal Care and Adoption Center. Carla was born on Jan. 18, 1956, in Iowa City, Iowa, to Donald and Betty (Hecathorn) Droll. She was raised in Iowa City by James and Betty (Hecathorn) Klein along with her siblings, Roxann, Jody and Charles (Chuck). Carla attended schools in Iowa City and graduated from University of Iowa Hospital School before the school closed. Carla was a social butterfly and made friends with everyone she came across, no matter who they were. There were many things that Carla enjoyed in her free time, but her favorites were bingo, basketball, dogs, cats, shredding paper, watching movies, socializing and listening to music, especially country. If you knew Carla, you knew that she loved watching sports on TV, specifically the Chicago Cubs and San Francisco 49ers as she was their biggest fan. Eating was also one of her favorite things to do and if you were cooking for Carla, you would make her favorite foods: steak, pizza, BBQ ribs and cookies! In 2005, she moved to Chula Vista, Calif., with her sister Roxann to be near their brother and Carla eventually settled in Lemon Grove, Calif., where she lived at ARC's Washington House. She was loved beyond comprehension and her siblings and nieces are thankful they were able to spend her 66th birthday with her, just a few weeks before her death. Carla was a bright light without even trying and her death will forever leave a void. She is survived by her siblings, Roxann Droll of Iowa City, Iowa, Jody Thomas of Iowa City, Iowa, and Chuck Klein (Tom Swank) of San Diego, Calif.; two nieces, Keely (Nick) Lepa and Lindsay (Ryan) Quigley, both of Iowa City, Iowa; and nephew Chad Stacey of North Liberty, Iowa. Carla was preceded in death by her parents.
