Greg Wymore
Cedar Rapids
Greg Wymore, 71, a devoted husband, loving father, proud grandfather, beloved brother, and loyal friend, passed away peacefully on March 27, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of unwavering dedication to family, faith, and community.
Greg carried a competitive spirit and love of athletics throughout his life. A 1972 graduate of Kennedy High School, he made his mark on the basketball court, helping lead his team to a state championship that same year, which was an accomplishment he carried with pride for decades. He also played football, earning the respect of teammates and coaches for his determination and sportsmanship.
He continued his education at Luther College and pursued his love of football. As a senior, he discovered a passion for rugby, a sport that perfectly matched his toughness and team-first mentality. After graduating college in 1976, he went on to play with the Cedar Rapids Headhunter Rugby team and was inducted into the Cedar Rapids Headhunters Rugby Hall of Fame in 2013.
After college, Greg built a career with Raines and Associates, Inc., where he was known for his reliability and strong work ethic. In retirement, he found joy and purpose as a bus driver for the Cedar Rapids Community School District, forming meaningful connections and becoming a familiar, friendly face to countless children who adored him.
A charter member of St. Pius X Catholic Church, Greg lived his faith through quiet kindness, steady generosity, and a deep commitment to others. His actions reflected his belief in showing up for people with humility and compassion.
Greg was also a lifelong Iowa Hawkeyes fan, rarely missing a game and always cheering with enthusiasm, often with his face just inches from the TV.
He is survived by his loving wife, Nancy Wymore; his children, Dr. Julia (Ilya) Buchkina, Chad Nunemaker, and Amanda (Zach) Klimesh; his grandchildren, Oli, Andrei, Tania, Harper, and John, who will fondly remember his "Greg-isms." He is also survived by his siblings: Mike (Jenny) Wymore of
Spokane, WA; Randy (Kathy) Wymore of
Davenport, IA; Kevin (Lynne) Wymore of
Cedar Rapids, IA; Patty (Kevin) Timm of
Spring Grove, IL; and Matt (Trisha) Wymore of
