Bonnie Newell Obituary

Age 81, born January 16, 1928 in Laurel, MS the only child of Gertha and Bill Newell. He passed away March 31, 2009.

He graduated from Oak Park High School where he excelled in carpentry. He moved to Joliet in the late 1940's and worked for Caterpillar Tractor Company in Aurora, IL for 12 years before branching out as a carpenter, entrepreneur with Hoffman Glass Company. Many of his handy works are seen in storefronts in the Joliet and Shorewood area. His pet project can be seen in the sanctuary of Second Baptist Church and St. John M.B. Church of Joliet, IL. His latest project is seen at the home of Mrs. Juliet King and his own home, which he was unable to finish.

Preceded in death by his parents, one aunt; two uncles and one cousin.

He leaves to cherish his memories his wife, Ruth Pickens Newell of 49 years, together they parented two daughters, Elizabeth McDonald of Newton, MS and Patricia Driver of Dolton, IL; four sons, Harvey Crain of Milwaukee, WI, Jerald (Cynthia) Pickens; Theodore Pickens of Joliet, IL and Patrick Newell of Bolingbrook, IL; five granddaughters; four grandsons, one great granddaughter and two great grandsons; one cousin, extended family and a host of friends.

Visitation will be held Saturday, April 4, 2009 9 am at Second Baptist Church, 156 S. Joliet St., Joliet, IL. Service at 10 am, Pastor Larry V. Tyler, officiating. Interment following at Elmhurst Cemetery, Joliet, IL.
