Gene Olson Obituary

Gene E. Olson
Born: September 22, 1971
Died: September 29, 2021
Gene E. "Geno" Olson, of Mashpee, MA passed away at Cape Cod Hospital on September 29, 2021 following a long illness. He was 50 years old.
Gene was born on September 22, 1971, to the late Ellsworth Olson and Joanne (Baldacci) Olson in Riverside, IL. He grew up in Plainfield, IL and was a graduate of Plainfield High School. Following high school, Gene moved to Connecticut and then Cape Cod to manage a nationwide floor covering store. Here he met and married his former wife Kathryn (Sanislow) Olson. The couple settled in the very special community of Mashpee, MA in 2000 and soon had two sons, Benjamin and Luke.
Gene was a hard worker and a dedicated businessman. He proudly founded his own flooring business here in Mashpee in 2010, and named it B&L Floor Covering, after his favorite people, Ben and Luke. Gene's work deservedly earned him the 2016 SCORE Small Business Award. He was an involved member of the Mashpee Chamber of Commerce as well as the Kiwanis Club of Mashpee and Sandwich and the BBB. B&L Floor Covering proudly sponsored the 2015 Mashpee Chamber of Commerce Christmas Parade in gratitude for all the support of the Mashpee community as he commemorated B&L's thriving first 5 years.
Gene had a passion for cars, rebuilding engines in his early teens with his brother, Warren.
He was then part of his brother's race team called Night Prowler Racing, and together they raced stock cars for 3 years.
Gene found himself most at peace on the water, fishing or just relaxing. He also found solace driving and listening to his favorite 80's music. In recent years, Gene shared his love of cars with Ben and Luke. A passion for them now, it will forever keep their dad's spirit with them. More than anything, Gene was most proud of his amazing boys and loved them dearly.
Gene is survived by his sons, Benjamin Olson, of Mashpee, MA, Luke Olson, of Mashpee, MA his former wife, Kathryn Olson, of Mashpee, MA; his mother, Joanne Olson, of Channahon, IL; his brother, Warren Olson, of Lockport, IL; his brother Dale Olson, of Channahon, IL; his brother Raymond Olson, of New Lenox, IL; his sister Robin (Olson) Brooks, of Danville, IL; many nieces, nephews and dear friends; last but not least, his beloved Great Dane, Tiny.
