I am so sorry to hear about Mrs. Parris' passing. Please accept my sympathy. I also had her for a 1st grade teacher and I have some great memories.....she played the piano and we sang along, other classes came in as well I think. Frisky the squirrel poem?? Pretending that we couldn't get into the classroom and then her teaching us what "April Fool's" meant! She had a beautiful smile and was very friendly. I enjoyed seeing her in the past several years at Cookies with her daughter and Lynette. I have thought about her often over the years. I can only imagine the great memories she has left for your family.

"Mrs Parris, I wrote stories for this book, Raise the Flag: Lean Thy Arms, and I am giving you this hardcover book because you taught me first grade," I say. "What year is that," Mrs Parris asks. "What year is that," I repeat thinking. "In 1962, before man on the moon, before Big Bird and Sesame Street, in BC, before computer, I-pads, and smart phones and the dinosaurs are real big and eat children that don't go to school and do their lessons or play hooky. So, you really work hard to teach me ABC's like taking a sledge hammer and busting concrete and breaking into Fort Knox. I use ABC and all the way to XYZ and I even use Q and we know how hard that is from Scrabble. So here is your hardcover, Raise the Flag: Lean Thy Arms

Mrs. Paris was my first grade teacher and my favorite teacher. She was always so loving and caring with every one of her students. Naturally nurturing and compassionate. I will never forget her. My condolences to her family.

What a wonderful lady Mrs. Parris was. I often think of her and all the memories are so very sweet. She was an amazing teacher for those of us lucky enough to have enjoyed her 1st grade class. She was very loved. Thank you Mrs. Parris for such a wonderful start in our educations. You will be greatly missed.
