Roy Griffin

CENTRAL CITY - Martin Roy Griffin, 96, of Central City died Sunday, March 31, 2013, at Long Term Care in Central City.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Central City, with the Rev. Mike Wetovick officiating. Burial will be in the Central City Cemetery.

There will be no visitation. Solt Funeral Home of Central City is in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Griffin was born Aug. 26, 1916, in Medicine Lake, Mont., to Martin Thomas and Mary Florence Griffin.

Survivors of the immediate family include his wife, Marie of Central City; a son, Dennis Griffin of Central City; a daughter and son-in-law, Patt and Ken Brown of Angwin, Calif.

Also left to cherish his memory are two grandchildren, Bill Smith and Lara Spargur; and four great-grandchildren.

He grew up and was educated in Medicine Lake and after completing his schooling; he worked on the Fort Peck Dam Project. On July 4, 1941, Roy was united in marriage to Marie K. Schmiedeker in Alta, Illinois. As a young man, Roy left Montana to travel and work in the western United States. Roy worked in the music business in Minnesota; he was employed by Curtiss- Wright Corporation in St. Louis building airplane engines; and in Seattle, he worked for The Boeing Company. In the 1960's, he came to the midwest and he and Marie owned and operated M and M Pillow Cleaning. They settled in Central City in 1975 and continued their pillow cleaning business until retiring in 1985.

Roy was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church in Central City and was a longtime member of Elks USA. Roy enjoyed listening to music, traveling, gardening and he loved spending time with his family.

Preceding Roy in death were his parents, one sister and five brothers.
