Doris Freeman Dunlap

Trumansburg - Doris Freeman Dunlap of Trumansburg passed away unexpectedly at Cayuga Ridge on Wednesday, August 8, 2018 at the age of 90. Doris was born on September 16, 1927 in Waynesboro, Pennsylvania, daughter of the late David and Hilda (Kennedy) Freeman. She was a 1945 graduate of Quincy High School and Waynesboro Business College two years later. Doris learned to play piano at age 6 and never stopped until arthritis took control of her hands. She worked as a library assistant for 14 years in the Trumansburg Schools and served as the First Presbyterian Church of Ulysses organist for 37 years. In addition to her serving the church as organist, she gave her time and talent wherever and whenever needed. Doris sang and played at many wedding and funerals. She accompanied school choruses and musicals and played weekly at Lakeside Nursing Home for many years. Doris also loved playing in Duke Gerlach's Big Band. Doris is survived by her husband Charles Dunlap. They celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary earlier this summer. Also surviving are three children, Charles Dunlap Jr. of Kirkwood, Fred (Susan) Dunlap of Rainbow Lake, and John (Christa) Dunlap of Hector; daughter in law, Mary Dunlap; five grandchildren (Jonathan, Jason, Jeremy, Holly and Joshua; four great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. The family will be present to receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00pm on Monday, August 13, 2018 at Ness-Sibley Funeral Home, 23 South Street, Trumansburg. A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00pm on Tuesday, August 14, 2018 at the First Presbyterian Church of Ulysses, 69 East Main Street, Trumansburg, followed by a reception at the Chapel.
