GEORGE DURHAM
ROCHESTER, NY - George Durham, age 81, of Rochester, NY, formerly of Ithaca, died Wednesday, October 5, 2005, at Strong Memorial Hospital. He was born October 13, 1923, in Ithaca, son of Cornell University Classics professor, Charles Love Durham and Jean Glendinning Durham, and earned a Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering degree from Cornell in 1943. He served in the US Navy during WWII as Lieutenant (j.g.) aboard DE-370 USS John L. Williamson, serving as her last Executive Officer. Before his retirement in 1981, he was a manufacturing engineer in the Apparatus Division at Eastman Kodak Co. and Kodak Ltd., Stevenage, U.K. He was a member of ASTME and one of the earliest members of Penfield Country Club.He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Shirley Dusinberre Durham; sons, William (Insuk) Durham of Livermore, CA, and James (Deborah) Durham of San Diego, CA; daughter, Adele Durham Robinette and former son-in-law, Ted Robinette of Trumansburg, NY; six grandchildren, James Durham Jr., George Durham, David Durham, Jaime Durham, Aiden Durham, and Leigh Robinette; and many nieces and nephews. A private family memorial will be held at a later date.
