LAURA B. JENNINGS
GROTON - Laura B. Jennings, 62, of Champlin Rd., Groton, NY, passed away Wednesday, February 25, 2004, at her home. She was born August 25, 1941, the daughter of the late John and Erma Wilkinson Burch.Mrs. Jennings was an area resident all her life. She was employed with New York Telephone for over 35 years, as well as with the Dryden School System, Cayuga Medical Center, and the Dryden John Deere. She was a member of Toastmaster's and was a literacy volunteer. In her spare time, she enjoyed gardening, traveling, and being with friends. She had helped restore a historic home in Dingwall Nova Scotia, traveled to Europe twice, and adventured to Canada over a dozen times. She was extremely devoted to her family and friends, and was a wonderful helpmate to her sisters, brothers, friends and even to strangers. She was kind to the less fortunate and helpless animals. She had worked hard all her life and always set a stellar example of how to be. Her best job was as mother to Douglas Erick.She is survived by a son, Douglas E. (Becky) Jennings of Homer; brothers, Dwight (Laurie) Burch of Milford, NY, John (Marilyn) Burch of Centralia, IL; sisters, Melody (Mark) Woody of Canastota, NY, Chris (Paul) Ehlinger of Pittsburgh, PA, Aleta (Willie) Payne of Willingboro, NJ, Colleen (Reid) Johnson of Corvallis, OR, Kathy (Tom) Doyle of Rensselaer, NY, Lura (Ed) McHale of Harford, NY; grandchildren, Katherine, Eliza and Julia Clark; many nieces and nephews.She was predeceased by her husband, Douglas L. Jennings in 1995.Calling hours will be held Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Wright-Beard Funeral Home, Inc., 9 Lincoln Ave., Cortland. At Laura's request, there will be no services. Spring burial will be held at the Hartwick Seminary Cemetery in Cooperstown, NY.Memorial contributions may be made to the Humane Society or the Susan G. Koeman Breast Cancer Fund, in lieu of flowers.
