Hugo Immediato Obituary

Hugo A. Immediato, Sr. of Hockessin, Delaware Hugo A. Immediato, Sr., 93, of Hockessin, Delaware, the last surviving brother of the Three Little Bakers, passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by his family on August 27, 2014. Born in Wilmington, Delaware, Hugo was the son of the late Eva and Joseph Immediato who emigrated from Italy in 1907 and 1912 with their families. In addition to his parents, Hugo was predeceased by his spouses Peggy Jeanne of 30 years and Anna of 30 years, his stepson James DiGuiseppe and by his siblings: Edith Immediato, Italo Immediato, Lydia Leonetti, Mary Manno and Nicholas Immediato. Hugo is survived by his children, stepchildren and their spouses: Ross A. Immediato, Sr. (Jennifer), Cynthia Devorah Bell (Michael), Lisa J. Immediato (Willard Deputy, III), Victoria I. Winton (Robert), Deidre I. Frederick (Lyle), Hugo A. Immediato, Jr. (Sharon), Carl J. Immediato (Laura), Gerald DiGuiseppe, Judith DiGuiseppe-Shkolnik (Sanford), Lawrence DiGuiseppe and by his 31 Grandchildren and 27 Great-Grandchildren. Hugo's mother, Eva, died during childbirth when he was seven-years old. Growing up during the depression era of the 30's, life was hard and the family was poor. As the three brothers grew to teens they were driven to excel in physical fitness. They became self-taught gymnasts and realized they could do tumbling on the street on Bancroft Parkway and folks would stop and throw spare change encouraging their passion. As fate would have it, they got their first break entering a contest at an "amateur night" in The Black Cat Night Club in Delaware. The night club offered a six-week engagement at the club at a professional salary as the grand prize. From there the trio's journey took them to the Hippodrome Theatre in Baltimore, Maryland and next to New York performing as an opening act to the stars during the Vaudeville Era. Within a short time, the acrobat brothers became a professional act called the Acromaniacs performing on Broadway in the Paramount Theatre, Radio City Music Hall and other East Coast venues, in the Mid-west and as far north as Canada. WWII interrupted their career as Hugo received his induction notice and Italo and Nick enlisted themselves shortly thereafter. Hugo served his country in the US Army Air Forces as a Sergeant in the 341st Airdrome Squadron. He was inducted December 30, 1942 and began active service on January 6, 1943. He was tasked to lead an advance team to Japan to prepare for the formal signing of the peace treaty on Tokyo Bay on the US Missouri on September 2, 1945. Hugo's military career ended on January 7, 1946 when he was Honorably Discharged for his "Honest and Faithful Service to his Country". After the service, Hugo and his brothers picked up their show business career where it left off. Within one month of discharge, the Acromaniacs were performing for the Press Photographer's Ball in Washington, D.C. for President Truman. Shortly thereafter, during their famous three-high stunt on the Bob Crosby Show, Nick sustained a severe back injury. As Nick's injury required healing time and the brothers refusing a replacement, they decided to return to their hometown and follow in their father's footsteps. In 1948, they incorporated and opened up the first of seven bakeries aptly naming the business, Three Little Bakers. After 25 years of success in the Bakery Industry, they returned to their real inspiration in life. In 1971, the trio purchased the Sons of Italy building in Kennett Square and combined their culinary pastry talents and their love of stage and so began Three Little Bakers Dinner Theatre. In 1984, due to the growing numbers of patrons, Hugo and his brothers purchased the Pike Creek Valley Country Club in Delaware and built a state-of-the-art 900-seat theatre and expanded their entertainment venue with golf, swimming, tennis, banquets, weddings, bakery and gift shop. Soon it was re-named Three Little Bakers Country Club and became an entertainment destination. In conjunction with Weber-Prianti Productions, the Three Little Bakers provided a high quality and affordable family dinner theatre venue with a broad array of off-Broadway musicals, concerts and theatrical arts. Not only was the theatre one of the top tourist attractions in the state of Delaware, it was the longest running family dinner theatre in the country, closing its doors in March of 2007. Behind the glitz of Hugo's career and show business was his beloved family. At a USO dance in Savannah Beach, Georgia in 1944, Hugo met Peggy Jeanne Ross. They married in 1946 and started their family of seven children. Hugo worked during the day in the bakery, studied at night and graduated from Goldey-Beacom Business College in 1953. In 1990, Hugo was honored by selection to the Goldey-Beacom College Distinguished Alumni Gallery, Class of 1990. After Peggy Jeanne passed away in 1976, Hugo married again to their life-long friend Anna DiGuiseppe in 1978. Together they shared eleven children and 30 years of memories. Hugo and his brothers were lifelong philanthropists in the community and supported many charitable organizations including Mancus Foundation, Little Sisters of the Poor, Make a Wish Foundation and City Team Ministries in Chester to name some. The family wishes to thank the compassionate staff and caregivers of Delaware Hospice, most especially, Michael Dupree and also to Home Instead Senior Care of Wilmington. In addition, thank you to Reverend Dr. Laura Martin, Father John Hynes, Dr. Percy Bland, Pastor Henry and Michael Marinelli for the blessings they bestowed. Heartfelt gratitude is also extended to his loving grandson and caregiver JJ (Hugo III), and to family, friends and neighbors, who were invaluable. A Celebration of Life for Hugo was held on September 2, 2014 in the Chandler Funeral Home in Hockessin, Delaware. It was a private family service and interment. A special thanks to the staff and the family of the Chandler Funeral Home for assisting in the celebration of Hugo's life for his family. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Hugo Sr. may be made to Delaware Hospice, 16 Polly Drummond Shopping Center, Newark, Delaware 19711, C.E.R.T.S. My deepest condolences for your loss. I will never forget the wonderful evenings I spent at Three Little Bakers. My Grandfather, Clifford Garvine, used to let them into the YMCA after hours to practice their tumbling and whenever we went to the theater, they treated us like royalty. He was a wonderful, caring human being and I will never forget him.

My heart hearts for the immediato family during this time. I had the pleasure of meeting hugo through my work and he was just a ray of sunshine, I loved his stories of the past and the fact that he took the time to give me an autograph was something special to me (the bakers are Delaware royalty). I am enjoying the memories of the three little bakers country club where I was able to see one of their Christmas specials but mostly I am looking back on the times that I went golfing with my dad their, and for those memories I thank you. Prayers and love to you and yours. Its not goodbye its see you later.
