He was born on July 9, 1949, in Newton, the son of Billie Sifeuntez and Hope Marquez Lujano. He attended local schools, graduating from Newton High School in 1967.

Richard enlisted on March 24, 1969, in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam Conflict. After being discharged, Richard returned to Newton. He had worked for the Hesston/AGCO Corporation for 40 years.

He had been a longtime member of the V.F.W. and served as president of the Newton Fiesta Committee in 1994. Richard also had been president of the Mexican-American Softball Tournament, and was active in re-establishing Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church softball diamond properties.

Survivors include his mother, Hope of the home in Newton; brothers, Louis W. Lujano Sr. of Peoria, Ariz., and Robert J. Lujano Sr. of Grand Prairie, Texas; and sister, Mary E. Navarro of Newton.

Given the nature of our work assignments at Hesston Corp, Richard and I spent a lot of time discussing "things". I learned to respect Richard's point-of-view and consIDered him a friend. We used this adage': you can disagree without being disagreeable""

Richard was a classmate of mine in high school, and through all the years he never failed to greet me with a smile and a welcome no matter where we were. His joy in life was like a beacon to all. God called him home because he had something important he needed Richard to do, but I'm sure he will look down at us from time to time and smile.
