LAKELAND - Doris Kert Zonis, 94, born June 7, 1920, to Marie and Edward Kert of Philadelphia PA, passed away peacefully on August 10, 2014, in Lakeland, FL.
She worked as a library assistant/technician at Shippensburg State College (now Shippensburg University) for 12 years and as the librarian in St. Peter and Paul High School in Easton, Maryland for 13 years before retiring to Lake Wales, Florida. She was also a certificated Paralegal in the state of Maryland through education at Chesapeake College.
She was active in theatre in three states for over 60 years and was a charter member of the Chambersburg Community Theatre in Chambersburg, PA, where she acted, directed and choreographed many productions for 18 years. She also staged and directed 5 local lead in pageants for the Miss Pennsylvania Pageant, and was an avid bridge player. She was a member of the Winter Haven Bridge Club and the W.W.W. Duplicate Bridge Club of Polk County. She moved to Lakeland in 1999.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, David D. Zonis, her son Chuck (Hagerstown, MD), brothers George Kert (Philadelphia), Lee Kert (Baltimore), Bernie (Ft. Pierce) and foster daughter Patricia (Chambersburg, PA). She is survived by son Richard Michael (Becky), Jacksonville, FL, and David K. (Deanna), Lakeland, FL, daughter-in-law, Linda, Hagerstown, MD, 4 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.
Interment will be in Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, FL, at later date. Memorial Donations may be made to Good Shepherd Hospice in Lakeland, FL.
