LIONEL O'CONNER Obituary

LIONEL
O'CONNER, 87

LAKELAND - Lionel O'Conner passed away peacefully at home surrounded by loved ones with his favorite doggy in arms on March 6, 2018.
He was born in August 1930 to Albert and Axzee O'Connor in Louisiana. He worked as a night press operator at the Ledger. After working hard many years, he retired in 1992. During his time on Earth, he enjoyed nature, flying, water skiing, and Corvettes. Lionel was a man of simplicity and was known for his ingenious ways of crafting something extravagant out of every day household items, especially coat hangers. He lived in Florida with his wife, Dolores, before returning to Louisiana in the late 1990s. He returned to Florida in 2013, where he lived the rest of his days with his daughter, Jaimey; son in law, Terry; and granddaughter, Alexiah.
Lionel was a humble homebody, and was his happiest at home with family enjoying a home cooked meal and playing with his granddaughter.
He is survived by his daughter Jaimey (Terry and Alexiah) Byers; daughter, Gerri Nash; son, Lonnie (Kay) and many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his honor to the SPCA or Cornerstone Hospice. Per Lionel's wishes no services will be held.

I first met “Oak”, when I started at The Ledger in 1985. He took me under his wing, to teach me everything about being a Pressman. It worked too, as I just retired after 38 years.
Oak was more than just a co-worker to mehe was my friend. We got out of touch when he left, but he was always someone I thought greatly of. I regret not looking for him sooner.

My condolences to all of his family,
Rob Morris

I first met Lionel in 1966 When I went to work in the Orlando Sentinel pressroom. Lionel was a pressman there at the time. He was instrumental in helping me learn a lot about the trade and was always a good friend. In a few years he moved on to other places and I would run into him every once in awhile. It was always a pleasure to be in his company when we would meet. RIP Old Friend
