LAKELAND - Louis Raymond Qualls, I, 54 of Lakeland died June 13, 2011 due to complications with cancer.
Lou was born February 20, 1957 in Chicago to William Henry and Mary Ellen (Vinson) Qualls and moved to Lakeland in 1993 coming from Chicago. Lou retired from Edy's Ice Cream in 2010 as it's Transportation Safety Manager with over eighteen years of service. Lou is a United States Marine Corp veteran and an avid gun collector and enthusiast and was a member of the NRA.
He was united in marriage on December 2, 1989 to his former wife, Maribel, who resides in Lakeland. Lou is also survived by his sons, Louis R. (Tammy) Qualls, II and William H. Qualls, both of Chicago and Edward (Amber) Gonzalez of N. Carolina; his daughters, Dawn M. (John) Piparo of Lakeland and Julia E. Qualls and Madalyn A. Qualls, both of Lakeland; his sisters, Portia Shannon of Indiana, Mary Sparks and Judy Salgado both of Tennessee and Felicia Gomez of Chicago; his brothers, Bobby and Jimmy Qualls both of Savannah, TN, Nathan Qualls of Chicago and Wyatt and Jerry Qualls both of Indiana. Lou is also survived by his eight grandchildren.
Friends will be received Saturday from 11am to 1pm at the Lakeland Funeral Home Chapel where funeral services will be held that day at 1pm. Entombment with full military honors will follow in the Lakeland Memorial Gardens Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Department of Navy Gift Fund: 3025 John Quick Rd., Quantico, VA 22134 Memo: Wounded Warrior Regiment Charitable Organization.
