LAKELAND- Mary Carr Foshee Matthews, 91, passed away May 4, 2014 due to natural causes.
Mary came to Lakeland in 1929 from Coopers, Alabama with her family K.C. and Georgia Foshee.
In 1939, she married Tom Matthews and they started their family. They started a bait company and sold worms and shiners to local businesses in the Polk County area.
Mary worked for the Kathleen Senior High lunchroom and then was a salesperson at her brother's store Foshee Jewelers.
Her greatest joy and accomplishment was her family. She loved to bowl and was a long time member of Bethel Baptist Church. She had a big heart full of love and will be deeply missed by those who knew her.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents K.C. and Georgia Foshee, her brother Julius, her son Larry T. Matthews and granddaughter Tara Matthews. She leaves behind her children; Jimmy Matthews, and Ella Matthews-Keeble, her brother Clyde Foshee and sisters; Barbara Hunt and Loretta Britt. Her eleven grandchildren; Kim Keeble-Murray, Deborah Matthews, Michael Matthews, Bettlyn Keeble-Babin, Cody Matthews, Timothy Matthews, Becky Keeble-Cannizzaro, and Dana Hall-Bradley. Great Grandchildren; Matthew Keeble, Justin Bates, Ashley Walden, Chad and Colton Matthews, Chonea and Chyanne Matthews, Austin Murray, Garrett Hall and Hope Matthews and her 6 great-grandchildren; Landon Bates; Mattisen, Ellisen and Piersen Keeble, Haylen Keene, and Braydon Matthews.
Visitation will be held Thursday, May 8, 2014 at 10am with a service following at 11am both at Bethel Baptist Church in Lakeland, FL.
