LAKELAND - Patsy Ann Plaire Carey, 70, went home to be with the Lord, Friday, November 22, 2013, as a result of cancer.
Ms. Carey was born February 26, 1943 in Valdosta, GA. She and her family moved to Lakeland in 1952. She was employed by Watson Clinic, where she served as a medical transcriptionist. She retired in 2010. Ms. Carey loved art and enjoyed painting and expressing her creativity. She was a member of Edgewood Church of Christ.
Ms. Carey was preceded in death by her beloved daughter, Kelly Edmonds and her father, Marvin O. Plaire. She is survived by her loving son, Paul J. Carey, Jr. and his wife, Katherine; mother, Leila Plaire Gossett; sisters, Sue Dorrell and her husband, Dan and Kathryn Smith and her husband, Gregory; brother, Buddy Plaire and his wife, Tommi Sue; and many other loving family members and dear friends.
Ms. Carey's family will receive friends Wednesday, November 27, 2013, from 10-11am at Lakeland Funeral Home at 2125 South Bartow Highway in Lakeland.
A celebration of her life will follow at 11am with Bobby Schrimsher officiating. Interment will be conducted at Lakeland Memorial Gardens. Donations may be made, in Ms. Carey's memory, to Good Shepherd Hospice. Condolences may be made to the family at

My sympathy to Patsy's family. She was the best sort of friend - always ready for adventure and an inspiration in so many ways. I'll remember her (and miss her) forever.

sue, dan, lea, Kathy, and buddy, I was so sad to see that patsy had died. sue, you told me several months ago that she had ovarian cancer. I am, so so sorry the outcome couldn't be different. may all of you be comforted in knowing the Lord, our God cares about this and He will be with you.

I am truly sad to hear of Patsy's passing. I worked with Patsy at Watson Clinic and enjoyed seeing her each year at the Fall Fest in Winter Haven after her retirement. She was such a creative and talented person. My sincere condolences to the family.
