SIMMONS, 51
LAKELAND - Shane Allon Simmons, age 51, passed away on Sunday, March 24, 2013 due to cancer.
He is survived by his wife of 30 years Dawn; daughter, Brooklynn; son, Baron; father and mother, Rev. Bobby Simmons and Carolyn Simmons of Auburndale, FL; and sisters, Kelly Wilson and Carrie Shriner.
He was born January 15, 1962 in Lakeland, FL. Shane graduated from Evangel Christian School in 1980 where he was student body president and captain of the varsity basketball and baseball teams. He graduated from Southeastern University and served on the ministerial staff at Carpenter's Home Church for over 20 years as youth pastor, worship leader and executive pastor. Shane also served as headmaster at ECS for 10 years, and was varsity basketball head coach for many of those years. Shane enjoyed grilling, fishing and scuba diving with his kids.
He was the lead pastor of Life Church in Auburndale, FL, which recently celebrated its seventh year anniversary. Shane deeply believed in missions and participated in many trips to foreign and domestic countries. He fell in love with the people of Nicaragua and has planted 15 churches in that country. In lieu of flowers please continue Shane's legacy and support of furthering the gospel in Nicaragua.
Shane was a loving husband and father who will be missed dearly by family, friends and congregation. There will be a celebration service on Wed. March 27th at 7pm in the sanctuary at Life Church in Auburndale, 581 Berkley Road. Arrangements by Gentry-Morrison Funeral Homes, Southside Chapel.

I first met Shane at Evangel Christian School. He stood out as a kindhearted young man. Once, after a school event I found myself alone to put up all the chairs. A few minutes into folding chairs, I realized I wasnt alone Shane had come back to help me when all the others had rushed off to the next event. Over the years I watched him make great life-choices. Marrying Dawn was one of his best choices. Thoughts of Shane always bring a smile. Still his life speaks and ministers to those of us who knew him. May God richly bless his loving family.

I just learned of Shane's passing. My heart felt prayers go out now to Shane's family. He accomplished a lot for God and family in the short time he was here. I'm thankful to have known Shane. He touched my life in a special way. I know he'll be missed by 100's and possibly 1,000's. His legacy moves with all of us in what he did, taught and sacrificed.

We are so very grateful for the instrumental role Pastor Shane played in our children's lives as Youth Pastor and ours as a great Worship Leader and Voice while at CHC.

Well Pastor Shane, it was a beautiful service tonight in your honor. Your friends and family represented you proudly and the church was full of people that have been touched by your kindness and love. We will miss you greatly. My favorite memory of you was when you were performing our wedding ceremony and you said to me, "I left out the obey part" and winked at me. You always made me laugh. My fondest memories of time spent with Shane were when we'd sit in the cafeteria at ECS, having lunch. He'd share stories of growing up as a PK, and some times he shared with my son-in-law, who grew up with Shane's Dad, Bobby, as his pastor. Shane always made me laugh, but never failed to interject nuggets of wisdom into the conversation. It was a blessing to be on staff at CHC w/Shane, and I thank God for that. I thank God for the way the Simmons family has touched my daughter, her girls and her husband. You impacted that generation, and now they minister to the next one. Dawn, to you, Brooklynn and Bear, I extend my heartfelt condolences. You gave us an exemplary model of what "family" should be. And Shane, I'll see ya at the House!

Shane was the model of a servant leader. I remember when the state's new regulation meant the pre-school division of Evangel would need an additional layer of playground mulch. Who led the shovel crew with football damaged knees? Principal Shane Simmons, and there was no stopping him. We tried.
The job he started, like everything else he put his hand to, he finished. How incredible a loss. How sad a goodbye.

I remember as a child, Shane driving the bus to "Night of Joy" at Disney...and on the way home while almost everyone was sleeping...he would drive and sing and I would sing harmony with him…there are so many times he would pour God into my life…I am grateful for his ministry that helped shape so many of us Lakeland youth…His life and ministry has touched so many of us…God's blessing to Shane's family as they struggle with their loss…you have more people than you probably realize praying for you and loving you through this tough time.

I keep trying to find the right words to say to you, Dawn, Brooklyn and Baron but nothing seems right... this is one of those times that I am struggling to wrap my mind around, and will have to ask the Lord about when I get to heaven. :) But I know God is big enough and loves us enough to give me that, and that when I get there Shane will be there and give me a smile and a hug like he always did no matter how long it had been since we ran into him... and so for now all I can say is that my heart is so sad for your loss, that my prayers are with you, and that I know Shane is going to be missed by so many forever... but especially the three of you. Pastor Shane was THE reason I came back to Life Church. He was an amazing Pastor & an even more amazing man! I couldn't get enough of his preaching. He broke it down to "my level" so I understood everything. I will continue to look back into my notebook of his past sermons & "cliffnotes" of my own. GOD be to Glory! Shane was a one of God's best! I've known him since his youth pastoring days, my children benefited from his pastoring, he was my son's basketball coach for a season. I also know Shane as a fair, compassionate man as the principal of Evangel Christian School where my troubled nephew attened. For many years I was blessed by his praise & worship in song. Shane was a good man...he will be greatly miss in the natural; but our spirits rejoice for his real life with the Father and the saints who have been waiting for his arrival...Praise God!

Shane was my Jr. High Pastor in 6th (when he didn't kick me out for being too young to be there!) & 7th grade before he moved up to Pastor the high school (between Tom Sloan and Rusty). He also helped coach me in basketball at church and ECS. What an impact he had on me in such a short time! Pastor Shane had a strong impact on our family's life. His way of preaching made us feel comfortable and accepted in church. He was funny, kind and an honorable man of God. It is hard for us to understand why he was taken from us when he was doing so much good here on Earth. Hopefully, one day it will all make sense. We only had the honor to be under Pastor Shanes teaching a few times. My daughter loved to listen to him because she actually could grasp what God was showing us in the Bible. We are very sorry for his family's loss and pray for peace and comfort for them. He will be missed.

Shane is an awesome man the hours I would sit and listen to him praise God then look at Karl and say boy am I in trouble. I could hear heaven laugh. I think all heaven showed up to hear Shane worship God.

We hurt with the Simmons/Strader families and are so grateful to God for Shane's life. He sang so beautifully at our wedding "I Can Only Imagine", now he's experiencing first hand the glory of Heaven along with Jesus & all the Saints. So many great memories of a true Man of God. We love you Dawn, Brooklyn, Bear, Kelly, Bobby & Carolyn, we're hugging you in our hearts.

Another one of God's warriors has been called home. Shane was a great influence to my sons, Joel and Kyle Griner. Dawn, Brook, & Bear you will be in my prayers and the whole Strader/Simmons family. I'm sure Shane is either leading worship or playing the drums in God's orchestra!

Shane, Dawn, Rusty, and Leisa were my first Youth Pastors (vintage W.A.R. youth) back when I was in junior high. I was always inspired by Shane's passion for worship and his leadership at CHC. He was a charismatic guy with a heart for serving people.
Comfort, peace, and love to the Simmons and Strader families.
