Captain Martinez Obituary

Edinburg - Captain Carlos Martinez, 92, passed away on Saturday, April 5, 2025, surrounded by his family.

Captain Martinez was born and raised in Edinburg, Texas. He was a 20-year Veteran of the United States Marine Corps and served his country proudly during the Korean Conflict and two tours in Vietnam. After his retirement from the Marine Corps, he worked at International Paper Company in Edinburg for 17 years and served his community as a member of Holy Family Church in Edinburg for 52 years. Carlos served on the First Pastoral Council and continued for many years after. He was the first Eucharistic Minister, he served in the Homebound Ministry taking communion to parishioners, and he was also a part of the Holy Family Parish Fundraising Events.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Cosme and Francisca O. Martinez; four siblings, Jose Martinez, Amada Pena, Maria De La Luz Rodriguez, and Alberto Martinez.

Captain Martinez is survived by his beloved wife of 68 years, Margaret Martinez; five children, Juan Carlos (Belinda) Martinez, Anna Maria (Gustavo) De La Cruz, Jose Cosme Martinez, Miguel Antonio (Edna) Martinez, Joaquin S. (Laura) Martinez; 12 grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; ten siblings: Sofia Garza, Concepcion Hernandez, Cosme Martinez Jr., Juan Martinez, San Juanita Botello, Maria Villarreal, Dolores Page, Maria J. Laughhunn, Alfonso Martinez, and Margarita Perez.

Visitation will begin at 5 p.m. Thursday, April 10, 2025, with a Holy Rosary at 6 p.m. at Memorial Funeral Home, 208 E Canton, Edinburg. Funeral Mass will take place at 9 a.m. Friday, April 11, 2025, at Holy Family Church, Edinburg. Interment will follow at 11:00 a.m. at Rio Grande Valley State Veterans Cemetery, Mission, with military honors by 4th Recon Military Honors Detail.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a donation in his name to: Holy Family Catholic Church, 1302 E. Champion St., Edinburg, TX 78539.

Funeral services are under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home in Edinburg.

MARGARET WHAT A BLESSING TO HAVE YOUR HUSBAND AND CHILDREN.
CARLOS thank you for your military service to our country.
JUAN,JOE,MIGUEL,JOAQUIN,ANNA AND INLAWS I met some of you through your college years or marriages.I was invited to family dinners many times.Before dinner Mr.Martinez was out in the greenhouses watering hanging baskets.He always had an encouraging word and didn't mind that I would prefer to speak English.
TIO PONCHO and COUSIN JODY my sincerest condolences to extended Martinez family.Poncho met you at weddings and through your employment at Home Depot training in Dallas.
