Carlos Sandoval Obituary

Pharr - On July 7, 2016 Carlos G. Sandoval, 83, was called to be with the Lord our father and entered the eternal gates of heaven. During his time here on earth, Carlos lived a life of honor, sacrifice and love. Carlos was born and raised in Pharr, Texas where he began his career as a decorated police officer with the city of Pharr Police Department. In his youthful years he was blessed to find his soul mate of 63 years, Ms. Angelita Calvillo where they built a home in Pharr for their children full of love and treasured memories. Carlos was a devout Catholic servant to our Lord and was a member of St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church. During one of the most devastating events in our nation's history, Carlos joined the United States Army with a ranking as private and served during the Korean War where he later was honorably discharged and joined his comrades as a Veteran to our country. Through his police career, Carlos served as an officer also for San Juan Police Department, Alamo Police Department, and Edinburg Police Department where he made his home and later went on to retire from the force of 33 years. Carlos was best known for his invigorating personality and his love for the police force where many knew him as Sgt. Sandy. Aside from his love of the force, above all his greatest accomplishment was his family especially his grandchildren. Blessed to be spoiled by his five girls, Carlos taught them the most valuable lesson of family unity and togetherness. The fondest memories of Carlos was him always surrounded by his girls and grandchildren laughing and reminiscing around his kitchen table. His home was always filled with the most amazing aromas of Carlos's latest dish or even his favorite carne guisada and ribs. His love for cooking was known around town and was found within his meals as well. There was never a dull moment with Carlos and his comical stories of the past were always treat for everyone around him. He is preceded in death by his oldest daughter, Cynthia Sandoval Reyes; his parents, Higinio and Petra Sandoval; a sister, Hortencia Martinez; and two brothers, Rogelio Sandoval and Nicolas Sandoval. Carlos is survived by his wife, Angelita Calvillo Sandoval of Pharr; four daughters, Yolanda (Jesse) Sanchez of Edinburg, Diana (Rick) Olvera and Belinda Sandoval both of Pharr, Judy (Brian Acosta) Sandoval of Connecticut; ten grandchildren, Jesus Sanchez, Adrian Sanchez, Carlos Sanchez, Eric Olvera, Albert Olvera, Gabriel (Cynthia) Reyes, Crystal (Eden) Garza, Michael Sandoval, Alex Serna, Cynthia Serna; and one great-grandchild, Cynthia Sophia Reyes. Carlos's family would like to welcome everyone to celebrate his memory today and also on Tuesday. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m., with a 7 p.m. rosary, today July 10, 2016, at Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan. Cremation will take place at Memorial Cremation Center in Edinburg. My deepest condolences at the loss of Carlos. He will forever be in my memory as part of our family and the loving person he was. He is the one who most resembled my own father and I loved spending time with him because he reminded me so much of my dad. I will not forget the ribs he brought over to my mom's house and I especially loved to hear him reminisce about the family stories at the table. God Bless You Carlos and the family you leave behind and all your fellow men and women in blue. You will be in good company in heaven!I love you now and forever, Irene Gonzalez Schow (Austin Texas)
