Hilda Casas Obituary

McAllen - September 17, 1925 - December 23, 2018

Born in Rio Grande City, Texas to Manuel Perez and Gregoria Garcia Perez. Hilda Perez Casas peacefully went to eternal rest on December 23, 2018, while under the dedicated care of Amara Hospice at Briarcliff Nursing Home where she lived for the past 13 years.

Hilda was a humble woman, known to all as truly devoted and selfless. Devoted in faith and her love for Christ, Hilda's home was decorated in festive lights to celebrate Christ every year. She was a devoted wife of more than 56 years to her husband Jose P. Casas, who passed in 2002. She was a devoted sister-in-law who opened her home and her heart to Belen Casas until her death in 2004. She was devoted to her two aunts, Tia China and Tia Dora who lived next door for almost 25 years and whom, while visiting, you were most certain to catch coming in the side door which was never really locked. She was a devoted friend to all who knew a visit to her home was always rewarded with a warm plate of delicious tortillas, tamales, rice and beans.

But most importantly, she was a devoted mother of two sons, Fabian and Omar. A devoted mother who never stopped praying while her eldest son served his Country in Vietnam. A devoted mother who never truly slept until her younger son Omar was home, asleep in his bed. She proudly watched them grow up and welcome children of their own.

In the years following becoming a grandmother, she took the greatest pleasure in making Easter Eggs for everyone. She lovingly and meticulously gathered and cleaned egg shells for months prior to Easter and filled each one by hand with colorful confetti. There were always eggs for all the kids in the extended family and more; she must have eaten eggs almost every day of the year. We never stop missing the tamales and the Easter Eggs, and we fondly remember her telephone calls punctuated by a long silence after you said "Hello?". She shall forever live on in our hearts and in our memories.

Hilda Perez Casas was proceeded in death by her parents, Manuel Perez and Gregoria Garcia Perez, husband Jose P. Casas, sister-in-law Belen Casas, grandsons Fabian Manuel Casas, Jr. and James P. Epling. She is survived by her children, Fabian Manuel Casas (Elsa) and Omar Arnoldo Casas (Esmeralda); her grandchildren Monica Epling (James, Deceased), Gabriela Casas and Omar A. Casas, Jr., great-grandchildren Sean M. Casas, Shaine M. Casas, Kierstyn Gallegos, Seth M. Epling, James P. Epling, II, Ethan B. Casas, and Caleb P. Casas.

Visitation will begin at 12 noon on Wednesday, December 26, 2018 and a chapel service will be said at 2:15 pm at Rivera Funeral Home of McAllen. Graveside service and interment will follow at 3:00 pm at Valley Memorial Gardens in Mission. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Rivera Funeral Home of McAllen.
