JULIO D. PALACIOS EDCOUCH/ MCALLEN - Julio D. Palacios, 80, entered eternal rest with our Lord Friday, August 9, 2013 at his residence in McAllen, TX. Julio was born on October 27, 1932 to Jose Angel Palacios and Isabel De Los Santos Palacios in San Fernando, Tamp. MX. He is preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers. He is survived by his loving wife, Norma Irene Sierra, his son, Jose Miguel (Susana) Palacios, Julio (Nelda S.) Palacios Jr., his daughter, Ivanelle (Jose Angel) Guerra, 7 grandchildren, Andrea Anissa Palacios, Briana Nicole Palacios, Julio Daniel Palacios, Clarissa Celeste Palacios, Veronica Lizette Palacios, Gilberto Rey Guerra, Julio Enrique Guerra, 1 brother Noe Palacios, 3 sisters Reynalda Salinas, Joaquina Palacios and Macedonia Padilla. Julio was known in the Edcouch-Elsa educational community as a pioneer for excellence. As a community member, he was greatly loved and respected. Julio loved to attend football games. He was always ready to support "La Maquina Amarilla" on football Friday night. Throughout the years he has seen many of his students become professionals and when he is remembered there are always kind thoughts and words expressed. Julio had many pastimes. He loved to dance. He especially loved to dance "guapangos". When the weekends came along, he loved to barbecue for the whole family. During these barbecues, he became a photographer. He always said "Tenemos que tomar retratos". He also loved to be with his friends. A special place where he did this was to help at the CWV (Catholic War Veteran Hall). He was also a member of the VFW (Veteran of Foreign Wars). He was a church-going person and always helped his church, St. Theresa in Edcouch. Julio will be greatly missed by all especially his wife, Norma, his children, Jose Miguel, Ivanelle, and Julio Jr., his daughters-in-law, and his grandchildren. He was a tremendous role model in every aspect especially as a father and as an educator. He will always be remembered as the "Wind Beneath Our Wings". The family will be receiving family and friends today, Sunday, August 11, 2013 from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. A Holy Rosary will be held at 7:00 p.m. Funeral service will be at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, August 12, 2013 at St. Theresa of the Infant Jesus Catholic Church in Edcouch, TX. Interment will follow at Highland Memorial Park in Weslaco, TX. Military honors will be conducted by V.F.W. Benito Alaniz Post# 7473. Pallbearers will be Julio Palacios Jr., Jose Angel Guerra, Julio Daniel Palacios, Gilbert Rey Guerra, Gustavo Reyna, Sergio Garcia, and Julio Enrique Guerra. Honorary pallbearer will be Jose Miguel Palacios. A special thanks to Rose Hernandez, Gustavo Reyna, Elder Care Home Health, Hearts of the Valley-Hospice, Dr. Daniel Brown, Dr. Rocky Salinas & Pastor Robert Rodriguez, PCT. 1 Constable Celestino Avila and their staff for their excellent assistance of funeral escort and Guerra Funeral Home of Elsa, TX for the generous and genuine service. So sorry to hear about Mr. Palacios's passing. He was my Spanish teacher and I can't say "silencio" without thinking of him! He was a great teacher and fair to all. I will also remember that I was in his Spanish class when they delivered the message that President Kennedy was killed. Still I remember my Spanish class with fond memories of a very wonderful man. He will be missed.

My sincerest condolences are extended to the children and Norma, his wife, of Julio Palacios. Mr. Palacios will remain a respected individual and educator, especially in the Delta Area.
