Joseph Polin Obituary

Joseph D. Polin, 83, born July 27, 1941, in Springfield, passed away Friday, Dec. 6, 2024, leaving behind a legacy marked by dedication, service and love.

A beloved husband, father, brother and friend, Joe's life was a testament to the power of showing up for those around him, both in his personal life and through his extensive public service. Joe dedicated more than 30 years to law enforcement as a respected police officer and honorably served seven years in the Army National Guard. His commitment to safety and community set a powerful example and made a lasting impact. Known for his warm demeanor paired with a dry, sarcastic sense of humor, Joe brought lightness and laughter to many, even in the most challenging times.

Preceded in death by his brother, Bill Polin (Dodie); a sister, Susan Taylor (Steve); his firstborn, Joseph William Polin; and his grandson, Joseph Polin, Joe's memory will continue to be cherished by his sister, Jane Leake and all who knew him.

Joe is lovingly remembered by his wife of 58 years, Sara Margaret Ballard Polin and their three children, Shannon McCullough, Rick Polin (Samantha) and Jamie Polin (Stefanie). Joe was a beloved Poppy to 13 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, who will carry forward his legacy of kindness and dedication. Joe and Sara Margaret's union was a testament to enduring love, commitment and devotion.

As we say goodbye, we celebrate Joe's remarkable journey - a life well-lived, marked by unwavering commitment and deep compassion. His legacy will continue to inspire and he will be deeply missed.

A funeral Mass is at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 11, at St. James Catholic Church, 307 W. Dixie Ave. in Elizabethtown. A reception follows, where a meal will be served, allowing friends and family to gather, share memories and celebrate Joe's life.

Visitation begins at 9 a.m. Wednesday at the church.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to 'Tunnel to Towers' reflecting his lifelong commitment to helping others. The details can be found at Tunnel to Towers Foundation.
