George Vernot Obituary

Vernot, Jr., George B. Age 81, of Murray, Kentucky died on Thursday, October 13, 2016 at his home. George was born in Vassar, Michigan on April 30, 1935 to the late George Vernot, Sr. and Helen (Glady) Vernot. He retired after several years of service from Fern Terrace as the building maintenance manager. A modern day Davie Crocket, a true artesian and farmer. He worked with his hands and lived off the land. George was a successful hunter, trapper and fisherman. George was a jack-of-all-trades and the best story teller. He could fix anything or tell you what was wrong with it. George was loyal humble and modest. But what made him most proud was being a good husband and father. He was passionate about life, his kids and grandchildren. He was loved by all who knew him. In addition to his parents, George was preceded in death by one son, Duane Vernot; and by one sister, Phyllis Edwards. He is survived by his wife, Marsha Diane Vernot of Murray, Kentucky, to whom he married on July 17, 1986; two daughters, Lorrie Smith and husband Gregory of Marco Island, Florida and Sandra Stalmack and husband Dave of Dryden, Michigan; two step daughters, which he considered and loved as his own, Lori Childress and fiancé Bryan of New Concord, Kentucky and Carrie Kelly and husband of Nashville, Tennessee; one son, John Vernot and wife Sue of Lum, Michigan; one brother, Joe Vernot and wife Doris of Vassar, Michigan; eight grandchildren, Jeremy Vernot, Eli Smith, Danielle Taylor, Kendra Raska, Matthew and Morgan Childress and Autumn and Austin Kelly; one great grandchild, Jayden Lee Childress; as well as several nieces and nephews. A super guy and good friend. When I first met him many years ago I thought that he looked just like James Dean, so handsome. He was so funny and could tell many stories. One thought that comes to mind with me is that he was the guy that stood up my daughter Penny when she was a year old and she took her first steps. I have a lot of good memories of him and his children. What a reunion you are having now with your loved ones. Good bless.

Diane, I remember George fondly, his humor and great ability to fix just about everything. We had a lot of laughs together. May the Lord bless and keep you. (If you get two of these, didn't know if the first one went through)
