Daniel Wohl Obituary

Daniel Alfred Wohl September 23, 1946 - October 19, 2012 Dan was born in Cowlitz County, Washington to Alfred and Mary Wohl. He spent his early years in Cowlitz and Wahkiakum Counties, attending school, playing football and baseball, and working in the woods with his father and uncle in their small, family owned logging company. Dan graduated from R.A. Long High School in 1964. In May of 1965, he married Gayle Wilt. He went to work as a land surveyor for the Department of Natural Resources in 1966, embarking on a lifelong career that he loved deeply, as surveying took him out into the most remote and beautiful parts of the wilderness. He moved his family to Olympia in 1969. Dan and Gayle have 3 children, Paul Wohl (Laura), Shane Wohl (Corinn), and Hayley Cole (Lee) all of Olympia. In 1982, Dan married Pam Edgington, bringing her two sons, Kurt Johnson and Ty Johnson (Patty) into his family. Dan and Pam embarked on new adventures in the State of Alaska beginning in 1983. Dan surveyed some of the most remote and breathtakingly beautiful country during his years in Alaska, and secured his reputation as a meticulous and professional Registered Land Surveyor. In 1996, Dan and Pam returned to Washington, where they made their home in the Kettle Falls area. Dan finished his 45 year career as a land surveyor, retiring from the Department of Natural Resources in 2010. The outdoors was Dan's passion. He built his life around his love for the natural world. As a surveyor, he measured the land. As an outdoorsman and hunter, he deeply appreciated, perhaps beyond the understanding of ordinary men, the beauty he found all around him. He shared this passion with his friends and family throughout his life. Amidst the wonders of nature that were Dan's constant surroundings, he never doubted that he was in the presence of God. Dan was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred and Mary Wohl, and his older brother, Ronald Wohl. Dan is survived by Pam Wohl, his dear wife of 30 years; his sisters Cindy Dill and Nancy LaFountaine (Tim); his children Paul Wohl, Shane Wohl, Hayley Cole, Kurt Johnson, and Ty Johnson; and by his grandchildren Thomas, Kodie, Kaysee, Kaitlyn, Annie, Dalton, Brandon, Kolbie, Brady, and Kayla; and by his closest friend and longtime hunting partner Don Phillips. A memorial gathering will be held for Dan Wohl at The River's Edge, 4611 Tumwater Valley Drive, Tumwater, Washington 98501, on Sunday, November 4, 2012, 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. Donations may be made in Dan's name to Cancer Care Northwest, Spokane.
