Edith Simmons Obituary

Edith Grace Simmons was born January 16, 1921 in Washington County, Kansas, the fifth of nine children to Sarah and Edward Lohrengel. At the age of thirteen, her family moved to Tumwater. She graduated from Olympia High School and married Carson P. Simmons November 23, 1939, the one true love of her life. She was a homemaker and provided day care for many children through the years. She was a lifetime Methodist. Edith and her family spent many years trailer camping and later enjoying their cabin on the Deschutes River with family and friends. Hiking the trails or walking the ocean beaches would include extra kids to be part of the adventures. Edith joined her husband in Heaven on September 27, 2007, leaving behind her children, Jim Simmons (Eileen), Judy Keller, Sarah Simons (Bob), and Shirley Sorrell; ten grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren; and one great great grandchild; sister, Doris Smith (Snuffy); and brother, Joe Lohrengel (Doris); sisters-in-law, Barbara Lohrengel Jean Lohrengel, Eleanor Simmons, Velma Simmons, and Betty Cole (Gary); numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband and grandson, Ron Simmons; brothers, Charles, Willis and Frank Lohrengel; and sisters, Ethel Norlund, Dorothy Nusser, and Edna McNeal. A memorial service will be held at the Tumwater United Methodist Church, 1401 Lakepark Drive, October 2, 2007 at 10:00 a.m., Pastor Andy Oliver officiating, inurnment will be at the Forest Funeral Home, Olympia. A special thanks to the loving and caring staff at the Hampton Alzheimer Special Care Center. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to the Tumwater United Methodist Church or the Olympia Senior Center, Alzheimer/Senior Care.
