JoAnn Fast Obituary

JoAnn Fast

July 16, 1947 - June 1, 2025

Centralia, Washington - JoAnn Fast, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and devoted follower of Jesus Christ, passed peacefully at home on Sunday, June 1, 2025 her 57th wedding anniversary with her lifelong love, Darcy Fast. She was surrounded by her adoring family.

Born in Olympia, Washington, on July 16, 1947, to Douglas and Alice Spjut, JoAnn spent her childhood riding horses, exploring meadows, and delighting in nature a reflection of her lifelong awe for God's creation. She discovered a passion for music early on, singing and playing piano not for performance, but for praise. Worship through music became a quiet but powerful ministry throughout her life.

JoAnn met Darcy at Chinook Middle School when they were just 14, beginning a love story rooted in friendship, faith, and laughter. She graduated from North Thurston High School and later attended Warner Pacific College to study education. After marrying Darcy in 1968, she supported his professional baseball career, embracing their adventures with warmth and humor even sneaking their little dog, Coco, into Wrigley Field in her purse.

In 1970, JoAnn and Darcy returned to Olympia to raise their sons, Christian and Brycen. In 1979, the family moved to Centralia, Washington, where JoAnn would spend over three decades serving alongside Darcy in ministry at Centralia Community Church of God. Whether organizing events, singing hymns, or cheering from the sidelines, JoAnn poured her love into family, faith, and community.

She found joy not in the spotlight, but in the sacredness of everyday life a sunset, a grandchild's laugh, a song of worship. Her gentle spirit, genuine smile, and unwavering faith made everyone feel seen and loved.

JoAnn is survived by her husband, Darcy; sons Christian (Dyan) and Brycen (Kami); and grandchildren McKailey (Tyrus), Alyx (Max), Madison, and Taber.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, June 21 at 11:00 a.m. at Centralia Community Church of God. All are welcome to honor JoAnn's legacy of faith, love, and joyful service.

JoAnn was a part of my heritage growing up in her father-in-law's church in Lacey. I remember her singing The Lord's Prayer at my wedding in 1979. She had a lovely voice and a radiant smile, and was always that person who seemed to be able to raise everyone's spirits when she was around. I'm sure she will be missed, but all of us who believe know that she wouldn't trade places with any of us.

Darcy and family, I hope you know what an influence you have been for me and my family, even though most of our interactions were a long time ago. I know you have a lifetime of great memories of JoAnn and we are praying that they bring you some comfort at this difficult time.
