Larry Beard died at his home in Woodland after a courageous 18-month battle with brain cancer. He was born in Glendale, Calif., and raised in Vacaville. After graduation from Vacaville High School, Larry joined the Navy and did 2 tours of duty in Vietnam. After returning from Vietnam in 1968, he married Connie Waldeck. They had two sons, Nicholas and Christopher. In 1978, Larry started his own business, Wallace M. Beard Pump Co., His son, Nicholas, continues to run the family business. Larry was a gentle man known for his strong work ethic, honesty, kindness, wicked sense of humor and loyalty to family and friends. He will be so very missed.
Larry was preceded in death by his son, Christopher, in 2001; mother, LuEllen (Hartzell) Beard; and sister, Claudia DeWitt. He leaves his wife of 41 years, Connie; and son, Nicholas. He is survived by his father, Wallace Beard Sr.; brothers, Wayne (Diane) and Bruce Beard; sisters, Barbara (Mike) Pawsey and Melissa (Bob) LaLonde; mother-in-law, Dorothy Dorsey; sister-in-law, Joan Waldeck; brothers-in-law Gary, Steve and John Waldeck and their wives; several nieces, nephews and many friends.
A celebration of life will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 3, at Nelson's Grove, 15285 County Road 99E, just north of Woodland. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Shriners Hospitals for Children, 2425 Stockton Blvd., Sacramento, Calif., 95817 - Attn: Memorials.

Sorry to hear that such a nice man has passed. He worked on my pump when I lived in the country. I was so worried about our water and the pump and he could not have been nicer and more understanding.

Connie, Nick and Barb - I am so very sorry for all that your family has been through the last year. I hope you can take some comfort in knowing he is now with Christopher, his Mom and Claudia in a place where there is no sadness or pain. He can continue on with his role as the family patriarch from a higher place now and he will always watch over you and his family.
