Allen Mills Obituary

ALLEN MILLS Allen d'Apery Mills died in his sleep at Clare Bridge of Dublin, Friday, October 14, 2011. Born June 24, 1918 in Philadelphia, he was the only child of the late O. Albert Mills and Helen Neff Mills. Allen was predeceased by his first wife of 33 years, Dorothy F. Mills, and is survived by their two daughters, Carolyn Mills LaVere Wolfe and Nancy H. Mills, both of Doylestown. He is also survived by his second wife of 33 years, Margery M. Mills, and her children, Roger Williams of Syracuse, NY, Kay Kellogg and Bobbi Williams, both of Connecticut. Allen graduated from Olney High School, received his degree in Chemical Engineering from Drexel University and did graduate work at Chicago Institute of Technology and Carnegie Institute of Technology. He was a member of the Engineer's Club for many years and held a Professional Engineer's License. He worked as Vice-President and Sales Manager at the Andale Company of Lansdale for over twenty years and then at the Combination Pump Valve Company in Philadelphia until he retired. As a young man Allen was active in the Boy Scouts of America attaining Eagle Scout status. For many years he was an active Mason at the Temple in Philadelphia. He served on the Board of Directors for the Lansdale YMCA, and the Zoning Hearing Board of Montgomery Township. He was an active member of the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church of Lansdale for 53 years. Allen's love of travel incorporated many of his hobbies - bird watching, gardening, hiking and photography, among others. His travels in the United States led him to photograph the high point and capitol of many states. In later years he collected sand from his world travels and the collection was prominently displayed in his residence. In addition to his two daughters and his second wife and her family, Allen is survived by three nephews, David Culp of Indiana, Guy Gower of Harleysville, and David Gower of Tennessee; two cousins, Florence Frick of Philadelphia, and Norma McCann of Lancaster; and extended family through his stepsister, Florence Oeste of Colorado. A memorial service will held Saturday, Nov. 12 at 11AM, with visitation at 10 AM, at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1000 West Main Street, Lansdale, PA 19446, followed by a luncheon at William Penn Inn. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church may be made. Condolences to the family may be made at the website below. Nancy,
I know that this is a hard period of life that you are going thru right now, & I will always remember the good times that we had with him ( this past Christmas ) & I will see you at the service tomorrow.
