Carol Imperatrice Obituary

CAROL LEE IMPERATRICE Carol Lee (Sinnott) Imperatrice, 55, of Edgmont, mother and teacher, passed away March 8, 2012, at Riddle Memorial Hospital after a valiant battle. Mrs. Imperatrice was born at Rolling Hill Hospital and lived in the Olney section of Philadelphia until the death of her mother when she was only 11 years old. Thereafter, the family moved to Harleysville, where Mrs. Imperatrice attended Souderton Area High School. She then received her B.A. degree from St. Joseph's University, having also attended the University of Montpellier, France, for one year. She received the French Award from St. Joseph's at graduation in 1978. Later, she embarked upon her second career, completing her master's degree in education and had begun teaching French at Bishop Shanahan High School in Downingtown. Mrs. Imperatrice met her husband of 31 years, Rocco P. Imperatrice, III, Esq., while they both attended St. Joseph's. They were married in 1980 and lived in Media, until 1983 when they built their home in Edgmont, Delaware County, Pennsylvania. Mrs. Imperatrice was active in various Delaware County Bar Association activities and served as the hostess and master chef of the bar's only "Italian Night," preparing and serving dinner to over 100 guests. Mrs. Imperatrice was an accomplished costumer, having designed and fashioned costumes for various school and adult performances, including "Oliver," "Cinderella," "Anything Goes," "Guys and Dolls," "All in the Timing," and "The Laramie Project." She was also active in several Episcopal Academy committees, including the Auction Committee, the school's largest annual fundraising event. Mrs. Imperatrice was a member of the Alliance Francaise and served as a greeter during the 2011 Flower Show in Philadelphia which was themed "An Afternoon In Paris." She treasured her time in France and took as the greatest compliment that the French, when she spoke to them, surmised that she was either Belgian or Swiss, rather than American. She enjoyed traveling and recently revisited her school in Montpellier, France. Following her graduation from St. Joseph's, Mrs. Imperatrice was first employed in the furniture leasing industry. However, she soon moved to the home health industry, where she ultimately became the chief operating officer of the area's first for-profit home health agency. When Mrs. Imperatrice's children were born, she decided to devote her undivided attention to her most important position, as a full time mom to her two children, Rocco and Annie. She oversaw every element of her children's upbringing, and once, when asked why a woman as herself with such intelligence, abilities and personality, would devote herself to child rearing rather than a career, replied, "should only stupid women raise children?" In fact, not many people knew that she was a member of Mensa because she never sought praise or recognition from others. Upon her children's completion of their undergraduate studies, one at Union College and the other at the University of Rochester, and in furtherance of her insatiable quest for knowledge, Mrs. Imperatrice launched herself into the pursuit of her new career, attaining her teaching certificate and pursuing her master's degree in education at Immaculata College. While at Immaculata, she was pressed into service at Bishop Shanahan High School to teach several sections of French students upon the disability of one of the school's faculty members. She loved her students and they loved her - so much so that she planned to return upon completion of her studies.
Mrs. Imperatrice was an ardent Phillies (and Jimmy Rollins) fan, never missing Opening Day, and being a regular in Section 111, Row 3. One of her best moments was being present at every home playoff game of the 2008 Season, including the dramatic and unforgettable finish of the World Series. She was also an art and music enthusiast and a member of the Philadelphia Museum of Art.
Mrs. Imperatrice is survived by her husband of 31 years, Rocco P. Imperatrice, III, Esq.; her children, Rocco P., IV and Annie M. Imperatrice; also survived by her sisters, Christine Wampole, Claudia Curcio; and her brother, Nicholas Sinnott.
Relatives and friends are invited to her visitation Tuesday after 5PM, O'Leary Funeral Home, 640 E. Springfield Road, Springfield and again Wednesday after 10AM in Ss. Simon & Jude Church, Route 3 and 352, West Chester. Her funeral Mass will be Wednesday 11AM, at Ss. Simon & Jude Church. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, contributions to Bishop Shanahan High School French Department, 220 Woodbine Road, Downingtown, Pa., 19335 would be appreciated by the family

Chris, Nick and family of Carol. So. Very sorry to hear of Carol's passing. Not sure if you remember me but we lived across the street from each other in Olney. (The McGarrigle family) Carol and I being the same age, had lots of fun together in our early years. Putting on shows between our hoses and fun outdoor games that I wish our children had played. It is no surprise to read all the great things written about Carol. I will keep Carol and all of her family in my thoughts and prayers. Lynn McGarriglr Place

Rocco It was with profound sadness that I learned of Carol's passing. My thoughts and prayers are with you. Back when we would watch our kids at EA there was never anything better than when Carol wss there. She always brought a smile, a great sense of humor, and enthusiam. As someone once said, death leaves a heartache no one can heal, yet love leaves a memory no one can steal.
May God bring you peace and watch over you all.

Carol and I were good friends in Jr. High. We had all our classes together. I stayed at her house quite often and have so many fun memories of going to dog shows (they even let me show their dogs sometimes--I remember Thirston). Carol and I did lots of creative things together. She was such a good friend. She was the first one that invited me to go to a Catholic Mass (I was raised Luthern). I am now Catholic.
I remember her father and Tony very fondly. My sincerest condolences. I will offer a Mass and Rosary for the repose of Carol's soul. I look forward to a happy reunion with her in heaven!
