Calvin Eckert Obituary

Calvin Ray Eckert, 86, of Elizabethtown, IN, passed away on Thursday, October 16, 2025 at Hoosier Health and Living Community in Brownstown. He was born on January 27, 1939 to Ernest F. Eckert and Betty Burton Eckert. He married Helen Ann Biles on August 4, 1972.

Calvin spent his formative years in the Elizabethtown area, where he developed a profound connection to the land and the community. His early experiences on the farm instilled in him a strong work ethic and a deep appreciation for the simple pleasures of rural life. After many years of tending to his crops, Calvin retired from farming but continued to apply his industrious spirit to his work at Hartup Tool. He also proudly served in the Indiana National Guard.

In his early life, Calvin was a member of Elizabethtown Christian Church and in his later years he attended Lakeview Church of Christ. His faith was a cornerstone of his existence, guiding him in his daily actions and providing comfort and strength during life's challenges.

In his retirement, Calvin had a passion for working in his farm shop. This became his sanctuary, a place where he could tinker, create, and repair, often losing track of time as he immersed himself in his projects.

Above all, Calvin's role as a devoted caregiver for his wife showcased his compassionate nature and deep capacity for love. He was a loving husband, whose unwavering support and dedication to his wife's well-being was evident to all who knew them. As a father, he instilled in his son the values of faith, family and kindness. His siblings, nieces, and nephews knew him as a wise and gentle presence.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, October 20, 2025 at Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home. Calling hours will be from 11 a.m. until service time Monday at the funeral home. Calvin will be laid to rest beside his wife and son at New Harmony Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to Our Hospice of South-Central Indiana.
