William Hanley Obituary

William G Hanley, an author, playwright and screenwriter, died on Friday, May 25, at his Ridgefield home at the age of 80

A native of Lorain, Ohio, Mr Hanley was born on Oct 22, 1931, a son of William Gerald and Anne Rodgers Hanley His uncles included British novelists James Hanley and Gerald Hanley, and a sister, Ellen Hanley, was an actress

Mr Hanley had a long career in writing Among his works were the plays Slow Dance on the Killing Ground, Whisper in My Good Ear, and Mrs Dally has A Lover, and the teleplays Who'll Save Our Children, The Long Way Home, and The Attic: The Hiding of Anne Frank

He received an Edgar Award for his teleplay for the 1987 miniseries Nutcracker: Money, Madness & Murder

His novels included Blue Dreams,  Mixed Feelings, and Leaving Mount Venus, all published in the 1970s

Services will be private

Burial will be in the family plot at Mapleshade Cemetery, next to his parents and sister

Kane Funeral Home, 25 Catoonah St, is in charge of arrangements
