Frances Dorsey

BRYSON CITY - Frances Smith Dorsey, 88, of the Needmore Community went home to be with the Lord Sunday, July 20, 2025. A native of Swain County, she was the daughter of the late Colman and Maggie Bowers Smith. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Cecil Dorsey; brothers, John Smith and Lon Smith; sisters, Belle Helton, Lizzie Bowers, Mae Clay and Edith Jenkins; and sons-in-law, Charles Bailey and Bill Oliver. She was a faithful member of the Mt. Vernon Freewill Baptist Church.
She is survived by her daughters, Vickie Bailey, Donna Oliver and Rose Marie (Jody) Jenkins all of Bryson City; bonus daughters, Elaine Lakey and Erica Muse; grandchildren, Lynette (James) Phillips, Brandon (Laurie) Bailey, McKinley "Buck" (Chelsea) Jenkins, Chris (Jessica) Jenkins, Maggie (Spencer) Jones, Nikki Jenkins and Kala (Nathan) Rogers; great-grandchildren; Brooke Phillips, Grant Phillips, Addisyn Jenkins, Hank Jenkins, Willow Manning, Meadow Manning, Jade Jenkins, Will Phillips, Emma Jenkins, Cherry Jones, Sam Jenkins, Dorsey Bailey, Gavin Rogers, Ty Jenkins, Blakely Bailey, Kathy Joe Jenkins, John Luke Jenkins and Rhett Rogers; and brothers and sisters, Arvil Bowers, Peggy Hayes, Leon Smith, Rollon Smith, Phillip Smith, Sandra Tallent, Janet Allen and Junior Smith.
Funeral services will be held at 5 p.m., Thursday, July 24 at Crisp Funeral Home Chapel. Brothers Chris Nations and Jon Cannon will officiate. Burial will follow at Grave Gap Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 p.m., Thursday at the Funeral Home. Pallbearers are Arvil Bowers, Leon Smith, Rollon Smith, Phillip Smith, Walter Tallent, Joe Allen and Junior Smith.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Grave Gap Cemetery Fund.
The family would like to thank Four Seasons Hospice for the great care taken with Frances.
