Joseph Greenlee

CARTERVILLE -- Joseph "Joe" W. Greenlee, 49, passed away at 10:14 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 16, 2010, at his home, surrounded by his loving family. Joe had fought a hard battle against cancer for 4 1/2 years.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 19, 2010, in Riggin-Pillatsch and Burke Funeral Home in Carterville, with the Rev. Jim Wright, Sister Carol Karnitsky, Pastor John Yeo, and his twin brother, Ken Greenlee, officiating. Burial will be in Willowrest Cemetery in Carterville. Visitation will begin after 6 p.m. today at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to his family. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

Joe was born Sept. 17, 1961, in Alton, to Kenneth Lee and Wilma Marie (Bima) Greenlee. He married Tana Evans on Nov. 7, 1981, in Carterville.

He is survived by his wife, Tana Greenlee of Carterville; daughter and son-in-law, Amy and Colin Zelasko of Carterville; son, Adam Greenlee of Carterville; mother, Wilma Greenlee of Carterville; sisters and brother-in-law, Kathy and Brad Solomon, and Nancy Pick, all of Carterville; brothers and sisters-in-law, Ken and Stacy Greenlee of Carterville, Paul and Paula Greenlee of Carterville; mother and father-in-law, Don and Betty Evans of Carterville; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Donnie and Sherrill Evans of Carterville and Jim and Cindy Evans of Herrin; nieces and nephews, Amanda Todd, Matt Solomon, Ashlee Solomon, Kelli Greenlee, Paul Greenlee, Sean Greenlee, Sarah Greenlee, Lyndsay Greenlee, Dana Greenlee, Cassie and Michael Dann and their three children, Anna and Phil Huniak and their two children, Emily and Ian Lohnas, Jonathan Evans, Jamey and Ricky LaBotte and their child, and Kelsey Evans.

Joe was preceded in death by his father, Kenneth L. Greenlee; maternal grandparents, Bill and Manie Bima; paternal grandparents, David and Mary Greenlee; brother-in-law, Duane Pick; and nephew, Kyle Greenlee.

He was a member of First Baptist Church in Energy.

Joe worked as a produce manager at Reynolds Market in Carterville where he quickly became the general manager for 14 years. He also worked for Pepsi and Coke. Most recently, he was the manager of the Casey's General Store in Energy.

He had a love for sports, and he enjoyed coaching Tri-C Little League baseball, football and basketball. He served as a member of the Tri-C Board for 10 years. Joe was also an avid Cardinals, Raiders and Celtics fan. He would cuss and discuss sports with anybody.

He also enjoyed collecting comic books and attending gun shows with his brothers, son and nephews. Joe loved spending time with his family and playing pinochle with his twin brother, Ken, and sister-in-law, Stacy. He watched weekly TV series with his daughter.

Joe was a very loving husband and father and was deeply loved by his wife, daughter and son. He will be greatly missed by his entire family and friends.

Spoke with Joe almost daily over the last several years when I made my daily coffee run to Caseys. His presence has been missed since he had to quit working. He always spoke positively about his situation and lovingly of his family. He was a wonderful person and will be definately be missed.
