Karen Soderholm Obituary

Karen Virginia Angell Maxfield Soderholm, 78, passed away at her home in Washington, Utah surrounded by her loved ones on August 8, 2016.

She was born September 29, 1937 in Hurricane, Utah to Clyde and Hattie Angell. She lived in La Verkin, Utah until she married Stanley P. Maxfield on December 1, 1954 at the age of 17 and he moved her to Panguitch, Utah where their two children, Stanley Paul Maxfield Jr. and Karen Michele were born. Stan's jobs moved the family many times from Provo, Utah to Willetts, California and to Williams, Arizona. In 1960, Stan was hurt in an accident while driving a logging truck and was paralyzed from the neck down. After all the doctor visits and hospital stays Karen and Stan decided to move to Washington, Utah where they built their home and setup permanent residency. For 21 years Karen took care of him at home so they could raise their children together. During the summer she would pack their camper and load the horses up and along with Stan their children, and always a few other cowboys they traveled across the country to rodeo. They also started the Washington City Little League Program, where Stan would be in his wheelchair and Karen did all the footwork. She has hit many balls, broke many horses and did anything Stan and their children asked of her. Karen was a sassy (feisty) woman. She was a second Mom to many kids and had many friends and was loved by everyone.

The biggest joy in her life were her kids, grandkids, and great grandkids. Her life was always centered around them. She created a home where everyone wanted to come and visit and possibly live there...if they could have.

She was a beautiful seamstress and thoroughly enjoyed sewing westem shirts. Everyone loved the shirts she sewed. She took orders from people all over the St. George area to make them shirts.

Stan passed away July 8, 1981 and on April 1, 1983 she married Robert Soderholm and moved with him to Las Vegas, Nevada where they lived together for 4 years until Bob passed away from a heart attack at his job. She then moved back into her home in Washington, Utah. After a few years she moved her mother in to take care of her until her mother's passing in 1993. For the next 23 years she enjoyed watching her grandchildren grow up and some of them becoming parents and making her a great grandma. I don't think there was a day missed that at least one or two of them would stop by and visit with her and check on her. She was the glue that held the family together and will be greatly missed by all. She is survived by her children, Paul (Jennifer) Maxfield and Michele Fleming; grandchildren, TyRel (Kyla) Glazier, Trevor (Natosha) Fleming, Jadee Fleming, Chance Maxfield. Brianne Maxfield and Dallon Maxfield; and 5 great grandchildren, Her brothers Chuck (Susan) Angell, Kenneth (Anita) Button, and her sister, Verlynn (Ray) Beal, and her sister in law Veronica Angell.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her 2 husbands and her 2 brothers Dennis Angell and Dalmar Angell.
