Vivian Allen Adams

St George, Utah - Vivian Allen Adams, 94, of St George, UT, passed away peacefully at his home Thursday July 12, 2018.

He was born December 3, 1923, in Fredonia, AZ to the late Merlynn Vivian and Emma Hortt Adams.

He was preceded in death by his wife Donna Louise Wood, his son Michael, his daughter Mitzi, and his grandsons Steven Adams and Colter Weierman. He was also preceded in death by his brother John and sister Jean Crosby. He is survived by his sister Merlynn Esplin of N Las Vegas, NV.

He is survived by his wife Melba LaVerne Weierman Adams and their children Scott Adams, Marcie (Terry) Lenio, Christine Cheaney, Stuart (Donna) Adams, Jennifer (Billy) Moore, Duane (Kim) Weierman and Jamie (Brigham) Garrett. He is also survived by 25 grandchildren and 41 great grandchildren.

He spent his first 18 years in Kanab, Ut, where he learned ranching from his father. He excelled in academics and sports in high school. After high school he attended Branch Agricultural College (now Southern Utah University), Brigham Young University, and the US Merchant Marine Academy graduating with a degree in engineering. He held several distinctions while at the Academy.

He Served in WWII in the Merchant Marines. He began his career working for the FBI in March 1947. Here he met his wife Donna who he married on December 20, 1947, in Washington D.C. They had 6 children and a career that kept them on the move, living in 37 different homes by the time they retired in 1983.

While in the FBI he attended law school. After leaving the FBI he continued his love of law enforcement serving as Supt. Of Police for the Navajo Nation twice and Chief of Police for the Glendale, AZ Police Dept. He also served twice as Pres. of the Arizona Police Chief's Asso. He later resumed working for the Dept. of Justice as head of the National Indian Desk for the LEAA (Law Enforcement Assistance Admin), and as Regional Director of Audit and Investigation in Chicago, San Francisco and Denver.

His beloved Donna passed away November 18, 1986. He then moved back to Kanab, Ut, to care for his father. There he met his beloved LaVerne Weierman and on June 3, 1988, they were married in St. George, UT. Viv and LaVerne began their life together in Kanab, Ut where he served as mayor for 4 years. After 10 years in Kanab they moved to St. Georg, UT.

He cherished his membership in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints where he served in many leadership positions, served a mission with LaVerne in Texas, and served for many years with LaVerne as temple ordinance workers. He was loved and respected by all who knew him. He leaves behind family, friends and work associates who are better because of their association with him. He was tall in stature, unflinchingly honest, dependable without exception, humble in his accomplishments, and a wonderful son, brother, husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.

There will be a private grave side service.
