Isabel Latimer Obituary

Isabel Ann Latimer

Muncie - Ann was born Isabel Ann Huffer and was always known as Ann. She grew up in Muncie, Indiana. Her father, Joseph Santford Huffer, was a CPA practicing in Muncie and her mother, Sara Props Huffer, a homemaker. Ann had one younger sister, Joanna, and a beloved Aunt, Isabel Props Kenny who also lived in Muncie with her husband, Jack. All predeceased Ann.

Ann attended the Burris Laboratory School, University Ave., Muncie, IN graduating in 1953 as her class's valedictorian. She studied art history & German at Vassar College in New York, graduating in 1957. Vassar was then an all-female college. It was there on a blind date she met her husband to be, Bill Latimer, who was then a student at an all-male college.

When Bill went on active duty overseas in military service, Ann furthered her studies, earning a Masters in Speech Therapy at Ball State University, Muncie. After short stints as a teacher in Rye, NY then as a stewardess for Pan American Airways, flying around the world, Bill finally caught up with Ann again and persuaded her to be his wife. They were married June 11,1960 and moved to the Boston, MA area were he was a law student. She worked at Harvard University's Observatory for a professor for a year before the first of six children arrived in 1961. Bill graduated in 1963 and their travels began.

Ann always wanted a large family (her husband's family had been large), so after the first child arrived, the family just kept growing. Ann gave up any career to keep the kids in line & in the Christian Faith. The last to join the family arrived in 1980. Ann was the best of wives & the best of mothers as she faced many stressful family moves during her lifetime to & from the suburbs of Sydney Australia, Philadelphia, Boston MA, New York City, Indianapolis and the boondocks of New Hampshire.

Her last years were a little harrowing as she faced first cancer, then Alzheimers. She wound up her life moving into Grand Brook Memory Care in Feb. 2020 where all the usual pressures of running a household were finally lifted from her almost overly- conscientious character. But after several falls & two operations, she died at St. Vincent Hospital, Indianapolis surrounded by prayers & by her husband, three children and two grandchildren and Pastor. At that final gathering, two of Ann's children & a son-in-law were doctors and Pastor Grady was formerly an ICU nurse, so decisions taken at that time were made with all knowledge possible. Ann is survived by her husband William Perot Latimer and by sons & daughters William Huffer Latimer, Elizabeth Latimer Aarons, Sarah Latimer, John Bracken Latimer, Daniel Thomas Latimer and Catherine Latico and their spouses. She is also survived by her niece Elisabeth Bingham & nephew Bill Bingham. Fourteen grandchildren (19 if we cheat a little) survive her. Ann had many close friends over the years, loved them and was loved & respected by them as well. Her ties to our Lord & Savior, Jesus Christ, and to her family were always strong. Her funeral is set for July 8th at 11 am at Advent Evangelical Lutheran Church, Zionsville. Online condolences may be viewed at www.flannerbuchanan.com.
