William Elwood Obituary

William L. Elwood, 65

Albany - William L. Elwood, 65, of Albany, passed away Saturday, December 3, 2016 at Albany Nursing Home.

William was born February 12, 1951 in Muncie, IN to John and Lucille (Taflinger) Elwood.

William was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, American Motors Owners Association, and Hoosier Rambler Clubs. William was presently working at Engine Parts Warehouse where he had been a Sales Representative for the last twenty-five years. He was a "car" guy from the beginning of his life until the end. He had his first car before he was sixteen years old, and could count well over a hundred cars that he had owned at some point in his life. Buying and restoring old cars were his hobby and love. For the last thirty-five years he had collected and restored AMC Ramblers with his wife, Sherri, in which they then attended car shows around the country. And, he was lucky enough to be able to use his love of cars, to work for a great automotive company (EPW) until his death. And, lastly, if he wasn't working on his cars, or at work, he was watching car shows on TV, while reading his car magazines. He was a total "car" guy that shared his passion with his family.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Lucille Elwood.

William is survived by his loving wife, Sherri, who he married May 8, 1982; father, John Elwood; sons, Jason (Joy) Elwood, Mathew (Heather) Elwood, Joshua (Sarah) Feeney, and Matthew (Lucia) Feeney; grandchildren, Jacey (James) Reed, Jalen Elwood, Nicholas Alsott, Araya Feeney, Peyton Feeney, Cian Feeney, Will Elwood, Olivia Elwood, Henry Elwood, and Lucas Feeney; brothers, David (Connie) Elwood, Jim (Marsha) Elwood, and Tony (Corinna) Elwood; sisters, Cheryl (Fred) Dixon, and Dian (Don) Smith. He was also survived by his two cats, Mia and Chloe who were very special to him. He was always happiest when he had a grandchild or kitty sitting on his lap.

I have so much to thank Bill for! As a young teenager in Mayfield ,Bill gave me my first real job working at White Flash Auto Parts. He not only taught me the trade ,but he became a good friend to me and my family .Bill was the first real sponsor on my race cars . Always giving me free parts or alittle money here and there.. but it wasn't just to me. As an employee I seen Bill reach out to so many people . Bill had a huge heart!!! Bill was responsible for the purple on my race cars. It started as a joke between him and I and ended in him saying I will buy the purple paint if you paint it purple. As so it all began. Except for a few times driving for someone else, my cars always had purple on them. I hadn't seen Bill in a couple of years, I had no idea he had became sick. I would Love to been able to talk with you one more time! Thanks for all you have done, you will truly be missed!!! Prayers to Sherri and all his family.

Sherri and family,Bill spent many a time in our race shop discussing cars with my husband and son. They considered him part of our family. We will miss the smiles and stories he always shared. I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers. All of us at Russell Racing
