Blythewood, South Carolina - Anthony "Tony" Gonzalez, 85, of Blythewood, died Sunday, December 7, 2020. Born in New York, New York, on August 28, 1935, he was a son of the late Rafael Gonzalez and Hilda Acevedo Gonzalez.
He had a Masters of Management/Health Care, retired Army 26 years, and served in the Marines and Air Force. He had a ready smile, never met a stranger, and was loved by many. His most defining quality was the love for his wife of 57 years and his large family.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, William Gonzalez and Rafael Gonzalez; sisters, Dionne Gonzalez and Cecilia Gonzalez.
He is survived by his wife, Gloria M. Gonzalez; sister, Helen Perez and brother, Michael Mulier (Barbara); children, Gerardine Williams (Marvin), Lisa Deas (Keith), Michelle Brantley (Todd), Anthony Gonzalez (Reni), and Madeline Shoaf (Donald); 20 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
The Mass of Christian Burial for Mr. Gonzalez will be held at noon on Monday, December 14th, at St. John Neumann Catholic Church, 100 Polo Road, Columbia. The Rev. Fr. C. Alexander McDonald will be officiating. Final Commendation and Farewell Prayers will be said following the service at Fort Jackson National Cemetery at 1 o'clock. A rosary will be recited at 4:30 Sunday evening, with a visitation to follow until 7 o'clock, at Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, 7600 Trenholm Road Ext., Columbia.
