Brooks Royals Obituary

Brooks E. Royals COLUMBIA Brooks E. Royals, 86, of Columbia, passed away Sunday, April 10, 2016. He was born on September 25, 1929 in Loris, South Carolina to Joe Royals and Lera Harrelson Royals. Brooks retired from The State News Paper after 30 plus years of service. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Columbia. Brooks was a Mason, Shriner and a member of the Optimist Club. Brooks is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Rose Marie Copelan Royals; daughters, Donna (Steve) Karr, Laura Grillo and Kim Smith all of Columbia; eight grandchildren; six great grandchildren; brother, Joe Dale Royals; sisters, Jo Ann (Charlie) McDuffie and Mary (Lloyd) Holmes; and extended relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and one sister. The family will receive friends at Thompson Funeral Home at Greenlawn Memorial Park on Wednesday April 13, 2016 from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM. Funeral services will follow at 1:00 PM in the funeral home chapel with Reverend Richard Humphries officiating. Interment will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to the St. Jude's Children's Hospital in Greenville, SC, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105. Family and friends may sign the online guest book at www.thompsonsfuneral.com.

Brooks did so much for the Friday Night dances at the Capital Senior Center. He will be missed by all.
