Columbia, South Carolina - Dr. Charles Major Bauknight, 89, died on Saturday, September 9, 2023. Born in Greenville, SC, on April 11, 1934, he was a son of the late Rev. Pinkney Lomo Bauknight and Nina Mae Eleazer Bauknight. Following his education, he joined the US Army and served two years as a Dentist at Fort Campbell in Kentucky. His three children were later born and he, and his beautiful wife, moved back to Columbia where he went on to practice dentistry until his retirement at age 64. Travel was enjoyable for he and his wife during their retirement and they loved watching their family grow with eight wonderful grandchildren. Most of all, he was a loving and fiercely devoted husband, father and grandfather.

Dr. Bauknight was a fabulous dentist and became a friend during our days at MUV Fitness. He was there frequently and always had a warm smile and a listening ear. I told him frequently that my son and I had never recovered from his retirement. He remembered my son and his difficulties after his traumatic brain injury! He also had the best honey and brought us a jar yearly. He was a dear and thoughtful human being and I know that he will be truly missed by everyone.
My condolences to the family, especially his beloved wife and children.

A distant relative thru my father, he was also our dentist. He was absolutely the sweetest individual ever. The day before my husband and I got married (on a Saturday) I broke a cap that was on my front tooth much to my horror..He met us at his office and put a temporary on at no charge as a wedding present. He was such a kind person. My condolences to this family.

Dr. Bauknight was a dear family friend from church. Also he was my dentist. He was a wondefully kind and patient man. A most precious memory was him teaching me to water ski - he was so patient and did not give up until I "got up". It was such a victory for me. Our family did not have boats or "do the lake", we were teacher's kids and learning to water ski was such a special gift to me.
