Mr. Stubbs entered in to eternal rest on Wednesday, March 4, 2009, after suffering renal failure resulting from congestive heart failure. Charlie was born in Atlanta, GA, on July 21, 1945, to the late Charles Edwin Stubbs, Sr. and Lottie Smith Stubbs. A graduate of Dreher High School, Charlie served with honor in the United States Navy (64-66) before returning to Columbia to start a family. He retired from BellSouth after 27 years of dedicated service. During his leisure time he was an avid sportsman and golfer, always quick with a joke or an easy smile for a friend. Charlie’s heart always held a special place for animals, with a nearly supernatural ability to befriend any animal - wild or tame - he met.
Surviving are his loving and devoted longtime companion, Mrs. Susan Rackley of Cayce; his daughter, Mrs. Amy Stubbs Humphries and her husband, David, of Lexington; his son, Mr. Charles William “Chip” Stubbs and his companion, Michael David Levey, of Columbia; his granddaughter, Miss A. Elizabeth Humphries; sister, Mrs. Ann Stubbs Nabors and her husband, John, of Leesville, and a host of other loving relatives and friends who will all miss him dearly.

GOD be with all of you during the loss of one of the finest Southern gentleman that I had the priviledge of his path crossing mine. I worked with Charlie at BellSouth and CWA Local 3706. I am so sorry for your loss and the worlds for he surely contributed GODLY character. The wonderful news is that "to be absent from the body, is to be present with the LORD" and surely, this gentlemen is in HIS presence interceding in prayer for all of us left here. He suffered a lot of health issues, but never felt sorry for himself, he just tried to bring a smile to all those he came in contact with. He and I had lots of conversations that were a testament of who he was. I just found out today that he had left this earth, but I look forward to seeing him again. If you have not seen,THE 5 People You'll Meet in Heaven, try to see it for it will give you insight of someone like Charlie.
I pray GOD will fill that "hole" in your heart that you are experiencing now.

I just heard last nght of the loss of one of BEST people I've known. A great personality, great jokester, a fine fishing buddy, sharp card player and just an all round good guy. I am honored to say he was my friend. He was as close to me as a brother when we lived in Columbia. My prayers go out to his family and friends as the world lost a good man, but we know that he has gone to be with God and his pain and suffering have been healed by God.

The Rackley's,
I am so glad that we had the time to meet Mr. Charlie ( our other grand daddy). He was such a wonderful person to us and we loved him very much. We enjoyed all the times he would make funny sounds for us. Train sound, Cow sound, and even when he would play the comb for us. He was a fun loving man and we are going to miss him very much. Praise god that he is out of his suffering now. Thank you both so much for making sure grand-daddy Charlie was taken care of. You both done a very excellent job.
