Mr. Felkel died Tuesday, September 6, 2011. Born in Anderson, he was a son of the late Fred W. Felkel Sr. and Althalee Bewley Felkel. He graduated from Boy's High School Anderson and then joined the U.S. Navy, becoming a pilot and Lt. Commander during World War II, serving in Flight Wing 103 and 107. He graduated from the University of S.C. in 1948 and was employed in insurance and real estate with Tom and Joe Jenkins Realty. A member of VFW 641, he loved gardening, fishing, photography and especially his family.
Surviving are his wife, Elizabeth "Lib" Gillam Felkel of the home; son, Fred W. "Rick" Felkel III (Twanda Saddler) of Hopkins; daughter, Suzanne Felkel Arnold of Hopkins; granddaughter, Dorothy "Darcy" L. Arnold; stepson, William Ray Cooper (Beth) of Columbia; sister, Emalee F. Holman of Anderson; numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his first wife, Dorothy Ann Burnett Felkel; sisters, Kitty Tolbot, Louise F. Finney and Dorothy Ann "Dot" Truluck.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Shandon UMC, 3407 Devine Street, Columbia, SC 29205.
